Christmas day and boxing day are always family days, think I will head down the shed for an hour or two tomorrow though. Cutting/drilling replacement timbers for a lorry body. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

By special arrrangement with management, I don't work on my cars on Christmas Day. However, last year, I was sent to the garage with a saucepan lid and instructions to weld a large washer to it, as the knob had fallen off at a crucial point. How could I refuse?

No I think you are compromising family time, I do all the cooking on Christmas day, and we usually go and watch a match together on Boxing Day (an old English tradition, for non UK members info!, assuming we can get tickets!)
As a rule I have never imposed my interest on my kids or family, there are more importent things in life than old cars !

Not a classic by any means, Our son drove in from the oil fields of Alberta to be with us for Christmas in his 2004 Ford F350 4x4 diesel truck and asked if we could look at his front drive shaft. Full diesel tank in the bed.
My 10,000 lbs. 2 post hoist really worked hard to lift that beast. The double u joint was making serious noises and he had been carrying the repair parts so while we worked on the truck my daughter and wife cooked a amazing meal. My son had to back to work on the 28th so he left on Boxing day, it felt great to get greasy with the son while the ladies did their thing in the kitchen.
Best wishes for the New Year

I wasn't compromising family time, junior was outside with me learning how to use a saw, and perfecting the art of cleaning old spark plugs.

Yep I have to clean the plug quite often before my chain saw starts!
Being serious the art of using hand tools need promoting, when my lad did woodwork at school, the teacher had to effectivly do anything that involved sharp tools even though my lad had used a saw at home many times before, I remember him coming home being very disappointed with his woodwork class....seems to be the way of the world thesedays!
