Its in the same place as where the MGA's bonnet prop rests, possibly the same radiator can be use in a different vehicle? or perhaps the MM was originally going to have a traditional prop rather that the elbow type, and the hole is just a design hangover?

I seem to think that even the earliest Minors had an over centre bonnet prop mounted on the bulkhead and that remained the same throughout the production.

Perhaps just to hang them for overhead delivery to the assembly line?

I think Dave has got the right answer - the fan guard (not necessarily the whole radiator) will be a standard pressing used on a variety of cars, some of which need the hole for the bonnet prop, some don't. |
