I wonder if I'm a bit sad.
I looked up number one singles from 1964 when my Herald first hit the road and not only do I know every one of them I don't think there's a bad record in there. Oddly enough although I wasn't born for another 19 years it was on the same date of the same month my car was first registered - and I'd owned it for a good few years before I noticed...

| Tell Laura I love her (banned by the Beeb) and Only the Lonely, but the month she was born it was Johnny remember Me. Which was followed by Burly Chassis and Climb Ev'ry Mountain - gulp. |

April 1969 when the order went to the factory it was Desmond Dekker and the Aces, the Israelites. On the date of registration (May 6th)The Beatles and Get Back
Others from that year included The Archies and Sugar Sugar, number 1 for 8 weeks and played at 7am every Monday morning by Tony Blackburn as I was on my weekly commute to work in the Lake District. That was replaced by 2 Little Boys by Rolf Harris Also in that year we had Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg with Je Taime (another one banned by the beeb), Zager and Evans, Thunderclap Newman and Credence Clearwater Revival |

Slightly off topic, but long before Sandie Shaw made bare feet acceptable, it had been my wife's habit to kick off her shoes at every opportunity,(and still is) even on her driving test in May 1965. The examiner was a bit unhappy about this, and went back into his office to check if it was OK. it was, and she passed, first time. |
