Hi
It's not a U reg, it's an L suffix, which makes it Aug 72 to July 73 and UN makes it Denbighshire.

Penman,

The issuing council is identified by the last two letters. In this case NP.
I got this from http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/np.htm

I believe there was never a "U" suffix issued as it too closely resembled "V" which was issued instead.
