... and yet they drive like a much younger car, for the most part.

Good thinking, why not post a few photos ...

My first 121 was a dark blue four-door car, bought for £50 in North Wales. It needed some resurrection work to get it roadworthy again, and I ran it for quite some time. I've no good scanned pictures of it to hand, other than this snapshot taken with a pal's Prefect in about 1992.

I'd known about a green 122S parked a few miles from home, for a few years, but the retired couple who owned it weren't willing to sell. Until on one visit, they decided to part with it. I bought it, had new inner wings fitted and a few other welded repairs undertaken, and ran it for a while, until my mate who did the welding persuaded me to sell the Volvo to him.

He drove it for a while, crashed it, and it went to someone not far from here, who restored it. I ended up buying it back from him, by this time in restored condition.

At some point in the late 1990s, I ended up buying this rally-prepared 122S, it was cheap so couldn't be left alone. At one time this grey Volvo had spent barn time alongside big Dodge in a Cheshire barn, that's where I first saw it. It was pretty rusty underneath so, at about the time we were planning to move house (I think), it was sold, to a Canadian chap who wanted to restore it back into historic rallying.

A red 121 was bought for spares (£50), its engine ended up in the dark blue 121. Another blue 122S was bought, the as-new front wings were used on the green 122S during its restoration. A white 121 (the third Amazon that I paid £50 for) was never actually collected - someone I knew in the VOC was looking for parts, so he gave me £50 and broke it for parts himself.

I really like the 120s, and would have another again, although the PV was slightly better to drive, feeling a bit more nimble.

Yes it is Nurburgring after the ECCR in Germany in 2013. And I did ask if I could take the Safari round but it was not allowed!
