I had only been married for about 3 years when myself and a friend located the remains of a 1910 Napier. We got permission to collect and recover all the parts. During that process, somehow, somewhere on the property I lost my wedding ring. Much careful hunting through grass and shrubbery turned up more car parts but the ring was never recovered.

did their insurance cover all the parts lost dave?

Hi Kev, the way pickfords storage fire insurance worked, is that you purchase multiples of £10k insurance x the number of weeks, they just pay out on the fixed amount. Had I known that the whole lot was going to go up, I'd have bought a load more as it was only cheap!

Not car related but this reminded me of an embarrassing incident I suffered some years ago.
My wedding ring is an old family heirloom on my wife`s side. It is quite splendid and has a diamond. One day I noted that the diamond seemed to be a little loose in its setting. But as we were working in Cairo at that time I had no idea to whom I could take it with confidence to get it reset. As the diamond seemed to be fitted in from behind I thought it would be held in by my finger anyway. My wife was not too happy about me continuing to wear it but I did.
Then one day I suddenly noticed that the diamond was gone! My first thoughts were "What will my wife say?!". I knew the diamond had been in place a short while earlier so I retraced all my steps but to no avail. So I then went back over everything I had done recently.
One of the jobs was to bag up some mail that I had sent up to another office in Alexandria by courier. I called my colleague there, explained my problem (particularly the bit about my wife!), and asked if he would check the bag thoroughly for me when it arrived. He did and he found my diamond! But whilst holding it up in triumph to show other colleagues he dropped it. And then could no longer find it again.....
Being a very nice man he, and other colleagues, undertook a complete search of the office. One of them thought he had found it down the back of an armchair but could not get it back out.
Amazingly they decided to dismantle the armchair totally and recovered it for me. I got my diamond back but the chair was beyond redemption....
Mates can be great, no? |

| Some years ago, I restored a BMW. I labelled every part and bagged them. On re-assembly, I discovered part of the carpet was missing- I never did find it. More recently I have been restoring an Austin 10 .I removed the side lights and put them away for safe-keeping. Again, they have never been found. I am starting to think there is a black hole in the garage somewhere ! |
