Hi,

I have a BMW 1m and I'm debating whether to offer or keep. I think it will be a future great/collectable in the following 20/30years. I'd like to get a vehicle review (like a pre buy assessment) to let me know whether there are any real issues with the auto that would depreciate it as a gatherers thing later on. Does anybody know of an organization or club that would offer such an service?

I think you'd be far better off asking the same questions on something like a BMW owners forum or even a club. Even then it's anybodys guess as to what will happen to values and the cars reliability.

Hi,

It may well be a collectable of the future, but any future value/profits would be offset by the ongoing maintenance requirements to keep it in good running order. It would have to be very well stored too, to maintain any real value going forwards.

I agree,I often think back and wish I'd kept cars that I had years ago. Being realistic though the costs of keeping them in good order and under cover etc would have made it not worth it in terms of trying to make a profit.

It's a car, use it through the 20/30yrs or collect china or stamps or super hero magazines, it's a car use it, enjoy it, and don't think of it as an investment. Try Money Supermarket for investment advice.

If the environmental activists get their way, all cars that consume fossil fuels could be severely restricted and their value possibly reduced.

I wonder what else can be seen happening in the future if we look into a crystal ball?

I agree, use and enjoy. A lot of 80's and 90's cars are now appealing as classic cars, Mercedes W123/124 are a case in point and the more desirable versions, coupe's, convertibles, estates, are starting to be worth something. Whether you have got exactly the right version, you will never know until the thing does start to acquire some classic status, but a lot of the well preserved examples are cars that have been with, enjoyed by and well cared for by the same owner from new or nearly new.
