Morning all,

Do you have any car-related ambitions that you've yet to achieve? Maybe a particular road trip, a restoration, a trip to re-unite your car with a former owner - anything of this ilk?

RJ

I like the idea of taking mine somewhere a bit more special than the usual trips, but the reality of it usually dawns long before I get anywhere close to doing anything about it. I'd like to use it a bit more than I do, for a start. I've had in mind getting a photograph of it near a sign on the way in to Florence, as "Firenze" is as close as I'm going to get to matching the car to a place. But I suspect it's a bit of a trek for just one photo.

I sometimes dream of driving all the way around Australia, keeping as close to the coast as possible, with maybe a few inland excursions along the way. Although I have driven from the East to the extreme West of the Southern part of the landmass, on two occasions, (return journeys of over 5,000 miles) and from the South to the North as far as Port Douglas, along the Eastern seaboard (again a 5,000 round trip), there is a lot left across the Northern and Western parts that I would like to cover, and these days I'd use one of our Rovers, probably a P4.

I've always fancied driving from Nordkap, Norway to Ecovia do Litoral, Portugal, a distance of about 3,500 miles - anyone want to join me?

Funny you mention that, I am also a bit of a bird watcher and have often wondered about driving to the North Cape to see many of the waders and wildfowl, which winter here, in their breeding plumage and on their breeding grounds.
Apart from the trip through the drain or on the channel ferry it is now possiblle to drive the whole way using the The Bridge.

I the think the cost rules it out for me at the moment.

I'd love to drive across the States on lesser roads in an early fifties Cadillac.

In a few weeks time I will be taking part in the bi-yearly Round Britain Reliability Run. This is a two day non stop run (Triumphs only) from London to John O Groats, to Lands End and back to London, approx 2000 miles.
http://ctrbrr.blogspot.nl

We (my brother, my son and me) thought it would be fun to do. So, last weekend we pulled my brothers 2000 Mk2 out of the barn where it has rested for quite a long time - last on the road in 2006. In my garage, a bit to our surprise we got it running in a few hours. Everything still seems to work. My brother checked the brakes and wheel bearings, fixed a faulty flasher and headlight, repaired the screen washer and all seems good to go. Ordered some parts (new water hoses, ignition set, plugs and cables, brake hoses) and when these are installed next weekend we will see if it is a problem getting a new inspection. If not then up to London in three weeks time!

Some of these trips sound tempting. You'll have to post updates of your drive around Britain badhuis, in case you pass nearby.

We have always fancied taking one of our cars up around the Lake District or North Yorks moors. Do a tour of the areas for a holiday.

I have never been to Scotland, believe or not, but I would really like to do the circular tour from Dumfries, up the west coast then east to Thurso and down to Edinburgh in the Jaguar Mark 2 .

There would be one excursion to the Orkneys as Scapa Flow is one of the places I want have always wanted to see having had an interest in Naval history for many years.

My cousin and her husband took a leisurely 14 days to do the round tour three years ago and they still speak of the wonderful time they had.

Inspired by Robbie Coltrane's 'B Road Britain' TV series and book (which is worth reading incidentally) I thought of Land's End to John O'Groats entirely on B roads. It's less than 900 miles without using motorways, I wonder how much longer a B road route would be? However, I've driven most of the way at one time or another so I think as an alternative St David's (Wales) to Great Yarmouth might be a more interesting trip - as you can see, I like the idea of end-to-end road trips.

I can recommend the North West 500 to all, the roads are superb, matched by the views, and usually very quiet. If you do come north, take the ferry to Cape Wrath, whilst there is still public access, and do by all means head over to Orkney, PM me if you do and I will meet you and do the 'Tourist Guide' bit.
Me I fancy the northernmost point, westernmost point, southernmost point, and then head west. Just a matter of carrying enough oil to keep the gearbox topped up in the Morgan.

How many roads have their own club?

Lots of information there about touring the north of Scotland.
