They're using the never completed Woodchester Mansion near here as Gordonstoun. It's a phonomenally expensive production with 100 episodes planned and a £150 million budget, so three hundred people on site, incredibly well planned and managed and with a 100 Kilowatt light that needs two generators to run it. Cars are no problem and, because it's an American production, no anti car attitude as pervades aunty.
I haven't watched it yet, but an ex BBC chum was invited along and blown away with the professionalism of it all.
It really does show why the Beeb is doomed. It simply doesn't have the resources of these massive TV production companies and it spends much too much of its budget on journalists etc, five episodes of amateurish Sherlock and one hundred of the Queen. Just staggering, I must watch it. |

We have the first shows here on Netflix. The production is very good.
It is a drama rather than a documentary and should be viewed as such.
I can remember many of the key events. I don't know enough about the vehicles that appear so can't comment about their accuracy but I am sure there will be those who are. |

An ex BBC chum who was invited on set by a senior member of the production staff. It's not a huge number by the standards of these things, quite a few popular series average over twenty a year, so four or five seasons.
If you have Netflix or iTunes, have a look at how many episodes there are per season.
As I said the BBC is a minnow in all this. |

To get the smartarse dig in first - the Riley RM "drophead" used in a scene with Liz & Phil waving to the crowd from the rear seat area is actually a 2½ saloon that has had the roof chopped. You can tell by the lack of pram irons and (the big giveaway!) two doors per side!
Do I get the Anorak of the Year Award? |

What channel is this on?
p.s. I don't have Netflicks so if that's all it's on I'll have to miss it. |

No, in my book you have drawn attention to how poorly researched the vehicles are in all of these T.V. shows. I supposed allowances have to be made for it being an American production. It could have had wide wheels and lowered suspension. |

From what I've read about this production, the vehices are not the only aspect of it to have been poorly researched. _________________ David

I have watched all the episodes, twice, I am of an age where I can remember many of the incidents, including the Coronation. I have enjoyed it for what it is, OK, some details may not be 100%, the conversations may not be the words that were actually spoken and the locations are not always the actual places. I enjoyed it and by accepting it as a drama rather than an educational documentary.
I noticed on the recent movie "The Martian" some of the shots were taken in an American desert and the spaceship was not correct for the year, other than that it was enjoyable. |

I wouldn't rush to criticise because overall it's extremely well done, in 4K and visually stunning. It's well worth seeing if it's the sort of program you enjoy and a welcome change from the more brutal modern stuff IMO. |

All I can hope for is that it comes out in a box set one day. SWMBO would love it and I'll, as usual, be picking holes in the cars and TV aerials, and all the rest. Don't ask me why but I just can't help it. Just like all the films I watch!!! |
