Morning all,

My own brief encounter with a 95 was mentioned on the forum recently. Are there any other fans of the 96 saloon, or 95 estate, amongst us?

I wouldn't say no to a 95 to be honest, the idea of driving something that looks very peculiar as a regular runabout has some appeal (likewise the Citroen Ami 6 would be another contender).

We had a new Saab 96 V4 in the mid seventies. I swapped my DB5 for it, which sounds mad now, although it was more practical for Britain's dog slow roads and dopey drivers.

It was slow, oddly geared, had a bouncy ride and it rolled terribly. All curable with Saab's after market accessories. All except an axle that whined irritatingly at 45-50mph.

It was well made and treated against rust and it was quite a characterful car, but I happily did a deal for an R76/6 with it and persuaded my company to buy me a new Critroen GS1220 Club. Not as well made as the Saab, but utterly reliable, fast, comfortable and a truly amazing piece of technology.

No pictures unfortunately but my dad had a P reg green 96.
Quite nice to drive and the V4 ford went well enough, didnt like the freewheel setting on the transmission at all as it felt out of control to me with zero engine braking.

I think that is a beautiful car & would love one in that condition.

My friend had one of the 3 cylinder early cars - must try & find the pix of it buried in the snow, cheers,JD

Early Saab pix taken about 1965.

This was after being directed by the police down a side road as the main road was blocked. The guy in front of him slid off the road. he stopped, helped the guy get out,who then drove off & left him. Nothing else came as the main road had been cleared. The car was there for six weeks before being rescued. Nice, what, cheers,JD.
