Hi everyone,
This was in among some old tools I was given. Does anyone know what it is and how it is meant to be used?

I'm now wary of throwing away old tools, after I thew out an old odd looking set of 'pliers', and then found out what a brake spring removal tool looks like and had to buy one a couple of months later Embarassed

Cheers,
Paul.

Morning Peter, spot on. Back in the day we had sets of different sizes, used to clean the valve guides when doing decokes. Different sizes/shapes of wire brushes for cleaning the chambers/ports.Both used in electric drill. When did you last hear of a decoke being done? I guess it's down to modern oils/fuels that todays cars are decoked using the Italian method.....down(or up) the motorway, cheers,JD

The proliferation of cash cameras may change that in the next few years.

I bet that old valve guide cleaner, has been around for 50 years.
Not used one like that for many years, I use a range of small flex hones now.
They make a lovely finish to a guide.

50 years would be about right. My father-in-law gave me his mechanic's toolchest a week ago or so and this was one of the items I couldn't identify. He is in his 80's and worked for AA Clarke around the Windsor area before he came to Australia in 1968.

Thanks for the comments. When I said to him it was a de-coking tool it all came back to him, he said 'yes of course!' Nice to be able to remind him of these things now.

Cheers,
Paul.
