Hi there, I bought a few Wipac oil filters, online, from someone who sent them to the wrong country. Sadly, he has no more to send me, so I am looking for some help.
I have a Rover P4 Cyclops that uses the Wipac canister filter. I either need a source for NOS filters, or perhaps someone on this forum has found a way to convert to a conventional spin on oil filter?
Any help much appreciated.
cheers
Kevin

Hi Kevin, welcome aboard, do you have a photo showing what the canister looks like? is it similar to that used on some Heralds and Standards, or like the one used on Ford Pops etc?

I will take pics today, but for now,
it is a WIPAC E3, the A40's used the E1 type,
it is a screw on oil filter that has a 3/8 x 20 thread that threads in to the block, and the canister is about 5" across and is metal, hammerite type finish with the WIPAC decal on the face of the filter.
I'll get you a pic so you can see, cheers

probably similar to the one my Standard 10 used (since sold). I have an odd one canister filter in the garage which I think is for early Triumphs, I'll have a look see if it has any numbers on it when I next go down there

the odd one I have in the garage is an AC filter, and has E7 stamped in the casing in small letters so no use on the Rover unfortunately

Hi, I've seen that on eBay before, I'm 99% sure thats not an A40 filter (although thats what he calls it), but the smaller spin-on Standard 10/Herald/early Minor filter

So, what do people do that have these filters?

they are pretty hard to find, is there a conversion kit?

There is a kit available to replace the type of filter used on the A40 & Ford Pop, basically an adapter to which a later spin on filter can be fitted. There is one for Ford engines that looks like the old-style canister, but opens up and a modern one is fitted to an adapter inside, thus preserving the look of an old-style filter.

I don't know if there is an equivalent conversion for the smaller Standard 10/Early Minor filter or not, but I bet there is somewhere

I will post a question on the list here, but if you can help me find the adapter, I'd sure appreciate it.
The thread that threads into the block is a 3/8 x 20 thread....
I have a car that can't move right now because it has a 40yr old oil filter on it......so any pointing in the right direction to the conversion kit you speak of is much appreciated.
cheers

If your filter is the same as the A40/Pop, I'll dig out a supplier of the adapter.

But if its different, then back to square one ... are there no P4 parts suppliers out there with either NOS filters, or else a conversion? perhaps someone in the P4 Drivers Guild can help?
