|

Hi all.
My Dad's currently re-building his WW2 era Commer truck, sorry, not sure what model, thought it was a Q4 but it's a lot smaller. He bought a replacement engine for it but is having trouble finding out which spark plugs he needs,he has a handbook but it merely informs him that the truck uses spark plugs and skips the minor detail as to which ones they might be!!
If anyone has the correct info,or knows where we can get it we'd be very grateful.
Truck has a 1994cc Rootes side-valve motor, apparently very similar to that used in the same era Humber Hawk but with a different head, and presumably lower compression ratio.
Any help/advice gratefully recieved. |

Hi
I have Like Rick mentioned, spec sheets, that refor to a number of Commers, depending on which one you have. I have information on 5 different Commers, I can easily give you the info, if you tell me what you have, or if you post a picture, someone should be able to id it, and maybe it will match the information I have?
Let me know anyway
Actually, I can see if it will scan in, and send it over to you if you like?
Cheers
Dave

Hi
I have just noticed there is a section for a truck with a 1944cc side valve, does this sound like yours, if so it says Champion L10 with a plug gap of 0.028-0.032 in.
If this is the truck, I have information on the Engine, Ignition, Carb, Electrical, Chassis and fuel.
I have a feeling the info I have may be for a later truck than yours. They date from post war, so mid 40's onwards?
Anyway, I have scanned you a copy of what I have, and I have emailed them to you, hope thay are of assistance! I may also have wiring diagrams if they are of assistance, but will have to check. (I think the compression ratio are on the sheets too!)
Cheers

Many thanks for your help chaps, think you've cracked it Dave.
I don't have any pics at the moment but I'll try to get some soon.Currently the vehicle's having a replacement engine fitted, took Dad some 6 years to renovate. He used to show it but prefers working on it these days, trundling along major holiday routes in Cornwall too and from events in Summer at 35 m.p.h. didn't make him too popular at times! Not sure what he's doing with the Morris vans these days, hardly touched them for years but he wont get rid of them.
When i phone him with the plug info I'll ask exactly which model the Commer is,thanks again,Dave |

Hi
No probs, good to make use of my service specs! They are all well and good to look at, and read, but when you find something someone is needing, it makes it worth while etc!
Cheers

Just phoned Dad.He's been having problems with the motor running riich abd suspected that the wrong plugs had been fitted. He tells me it has actually got L10's in but at least now he can elimanate "wrong plugs" as his problem so info was very helpful. He now thinks it could be a worn needle valve,I've just found a company on-line that does carb kits and parts for all kinds of vehicels of all ages, including his, maybe of use to someone else http://www.burlen.co.uk/default.aspx
His truck by the way is a Q25 Superpoise. |
