Hi all,

A heads-up PR for next February's event ...

---

LONDON CLASSIC CAR SHOW REVS UP FOR A FERRARI SPECTACULAR IN 2017.

• Highlights to include a celebration of 70 years of Ferrari road cars
• The Grand Avenue returns to provide thrilling classic action
• Tickets now on sale, with discounts available to on-line buyers
• Diary date: 2017 London Classic Car Show: 23-26 February

The 2017 London Classic Car Show moves into its third year with a host of spectacular features guaranteed to excite motoring enthusiasts of all ages and interests.

Returning to ExCeL London, the 2017 show will be held on 23-26 February and will build on the record 33,000 visitors who visited the 2016 event.

Among the new features planned is a celebration marking 70 years of Ferrari road cars while a display focusing on the life and work of a top motoring personality will be another highlight: previous shows have turned the spotlight on Red Bull designer Adrian Newey and Gordon Murray and the McLaren F1.

Popular features such as The Grand Avenue and Car Club Square will return, bigger and better than ever. The Grand Avenue, a roadway running through the centre of the show, allows visitors to see and hear their favourite classics in action. This time, The Grand Avenue will have an open paddock allowing visitors to get even closer to the cars.

Introduced in 2016, Car Club Square had displays from leading one-make classic car clubs and proved an instant hit. For 2017, more clubs will be invited to display a range of models, while top classic dealers will be on hand with mouth-watering machinery for sale.

As in previous years, The London Classic Car Show will attract a large number of celebrities from the motoring world over the four days of the event. Previous guests include: James May, Chris Evans, David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Sir Stirling Moss, Ari Vatanen, Gordon Murray, James Martin and Jodie Kidd. Expect plenty more big names in 2017.

“Although only in its third year, the London Classic Car Show has already established itself as the classic car show by which all others are judged. We have introduced many innovative features and have more exciting plans for 2017,” said event director Bas Bungish.

Tickets to the London Classic Car Show 2017 are now available from the show website – thelondonclassiccarshow.co.uk – and start at £24 for single adult entry (£27 on the door on the day).

More news from the organisers ...

---

THE BEST GETS EVEN BIGGER AS THE LONDON CLASSIC CAR SHOW EXPANDS AGAIN.

• Capital’s top classic car event gets a new show and more space for 2017
• Free entry to Historic Motorsport International to ticket holders
• Early Bird discounts available online from now to the end of October

The capital’s biggest and best classic car spectacular – the London Classic Car Show – is growing again. The 2017 event will embrace not one but two exciting exhibitions.

Now in its third year, the show – which will be held at ExCeL London from 23-26 February 2017 – will cover 40,000 square metres of exhibition space, up from 32,000 sq. m in 2016 and 18,000 sq. m at the inaugural show in 2015.

But with more than 700 stunning classic cars on display, innovative features such as The Grand Avenue and Car Club Square and the brand new Historic Motorsport International to accommodate, every last centimetre will be needed.

Historic Motorsport International is an important new exhibition which incorporates a conference and will champion and celebrate historic motorsport. Entry will be free to London Classic Car Show ticket holders.

HMI will have up to 100 historic competition cars for sale from leading specialist dealers with other exhibitors including engineers and preparers, organisers and promoters, motorsport clubs, governing bodies, retailers and media owners. A ticketed conference, hosted by broadcaster Henry Hope-Frost, will gather leading names in historic motorsport to discuss hot topics such as the use of modern technology in classic race and rally cars, driving standards and sponsorship.

Highlights of the London Classic Car Show, meanwhile, will include a ‘red sea’ of Ferraris, celebrating 70 years of road cars from the Prancing Horse. Among the cars on show will be greats like the Daytona, F40 and F50.

As in previous years, other special displays will focus on classic icons from the past. Last time it was supercars and Group B rally cars. For 2017, the organisers are lining up two very different displays of rarely seen mouth-watering machinery… full details to be announced shortly.

Another feature to make a popular return is The Grand Avenue, a ground-breaking all-action roadway running through the very centre of the show and along which some of the world’s greatest classic road and competition cars are driven.

It means The London Classic Car Show is no mere static exhibition but a living, breathing homage to the automobile… where else can you see Le Mans winners, Grand Prix racers, classic supercars and century old veterans in action in the centre of the capital?

This year’s expanded show will also include an open paddock allowing visitors to get even closer to the cars.

Car Club Square is another returnee, with some of the country’s leading one-make clubs staging displays of their favourite machines and with club members on hand to discuss the merits of their chosen marque or model.

There will also be plenty of opportunity for visitors to join the classic car movement with more than 85 per cent of the dealer space already booked. Among the leading dealers confirmed for 2017 are Duncan Hamilton, Hall & Hall, Hurst Park, Nicholas Mee, XK Classics, Graeme Hunt and JME Healeys. Major manufacturer displays will also be staged by Aston Martin and Maserati.

The 2017 London Classic Car Show is also certain to attract many celebrities from the motoring world. The roll-call from previous years includes the likes of James May, Adrian Newey, David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Sir Stirling Moss, Ari Vatanen and Gordon Murray: more big names are promised for 2017.

“The 2016 show was enjoyed by more than 33,300 visitors and we are confident that the expanded 2017 exhibition will be even more popular,” said event director Bas Bungish.

“With Ferrari as the featured marque, The Grand Avenue’s open paddock and the added attraction of entry to the new Historic Motorsport International, the London Classic Car Show is going from strength to strength.”

WORLD FAMOUS BEAULIEU AUTOJUMBLE POPS UP IN LONDON.

• Beaulieu Autojumble comes to the 2017 London Classic Car Show
• World-famous event marks 50 years with its first away fixture
• Up to 60 top-class stalls bring a flavour to ExCeL in February
• Automobilia, books, magazines and other motoring ephemera on offer
• Ticket to LCCS also gives entry to Historic Motorsport International

Back in 1967, what was then the Montagu Motor Museum held a jumble sale with a difference. One of the fields at Beaulieu in Hampshire was given over to dozens of stalls selling hard-to-find old car parts and spares, motoring books, mascots, brochures, advertising signs and petrol pumps – essentially anything with a motoring theme.

It was christened an autojumble and now, 50 years on, the Beaulieu Autojumble is acknowledged not only as the first but also the biggest this side of the Atlantic – the International Autojumble, held every September, covers three fields, has at least 2,000 stall holders and more than 38,000 visitors looking for those elusive parts. It’s said that if it can’t be found at Beaulieu, it doesn’t exist.

To mark that 50th anniversary, a flavour of autojumble fever is coming to the capital as Beaulieu partners with events organiser Brand Events to stage a Pop-Up Autojumble at the London Classic Car Show on 25-26 February 2017 at the ExCeL Centre in London.

Regular Beaulieu Autojumble exhibitors have been offered 60 stalls to sell all types of automobilia. If you’re missing an issue of a motoring magazine needed to complete a collection, or you’re looking for an obscure part for an equally obscure classic car, there’s a good chance you’ll find them here.

“Beaulieu created the autojumble movement a remarkable 50 years ago and we are very excited to have the very first Beaulieu Pop-up Autojumble at the London Classic Car Show, the first time it has left Hampshire. It underlines how significant our show has become in the classic car world,” said Event Director, Bas Bungish.

“In its entire 50 years, this is the first time our Autojumble has ventured away from Beaulieu and while we obviously can’t recreate the entire event at the London Classic Car Show, the Pop-Up Autojumble will give a real flavour of the world-famous events we hold here,” said Jane Riddiford, PR Manager at the National Motor Museum.

“We are sure our presence in London will entice more visitors to Beaulieu for this year’s two events, the Spring Autojumble (13 & 14 May) and the International Autojumble (2 & 3 September). Come along, you’ll be amazed at the treasure trove on offer.”

The Beaulieu Pop-Up Autojumble will be held on the Saturday and Sunday of the London show and will be staged alongside Car Club Square, which will be packed with classic cars owned by members of the country’s leading one-make clubs.

Visitors to the show are also promised a huge variety of classic machinery, ranging from early veterans to supercars, many of which will be put through their paces inside the halls of ExCeL. The show’s centre piece – The Grand Avenue, a motoring catwalk inside the central hall – will play host to 50 of the world’s most desirable classics under the banner of the ‘Perfect Ten’.

Five of the best saloons, coupés, convertibles, sports cars, supercars, hatchbacks, shooting brakes, sports racers, single-seater and streamliners will all be driven along The Grand Avenue, allowing visitors to see and hear their favourite classics in action. Other show highlights include a glittering celebration of 70 years of Ferrari road cars.

Entry to the show also gives entry to a sister exhibition, the inaugural Historic Motorsport International (HMI), which is being held in an adjacent hall at ExCeL. Devoted to all aspects of historic racing and rallying, among the celebrations at HMI will be the 50th anniversaries of both the all-conquering Ford Cosworth DFV Grand Prix engine and the birth of Formula Ford.

The London Classic Car Show and HMI will be held at ExCeL London, on 23-26 February, with access to both shows included in the entry price. Historic Motorsport International will open its doors at 12pm on Thursday 23 February, while the London Classic Car Show will burst into life at 3pm that afternoon.

And a little more ...

SEEING RED: £120 MILLION WORTH OF FERRARIS TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT LONDON’S TOP CLASSIC SHOW.

• 20 car display to mark 70th anniversary of Ferrari road cars
• Mouth-watering models include 250 GTO, F40 and Enzo
• Ferrari single-seater and sports racers promised on The Grand Avenue
• Ticket to LCCS includes entry to Historic Motorsport International

Daytona and Dino; 250 and F40; GTO and California – names and numbers that, as any self-respecting petrol head will know, can only mean one thing: Ferrari.

This year – 2017 – marks the 70th anniversary of Ferrari road cars, an event that will be marked by an incredible display of 20 of the greatest cars ever to wear the famous Prancing Horse.

The cars, together conservatively valued at more than £120 million, will form one of the major attractions at next moth’s eagerly-anticipated London Classic Car Show which runs from 23-26 February at ExCeL, London.

Among the greats confirmed are a 275 GTB, 250 California, 250 GT SWB, Daytona, Dino, an F40, 250 Lusso, an Enzo plus a revered 250 GTO, which on its own is worth more than £30 million. The special anniversary showcase is being curated by The London Classic Car Show together with renowned London-based performance car expert Joe Macari.

“With these spectacular machines on display, the centrepiece of the London Classic Car Show will be a veritable ‘red sea’ of Ferraris showing the evolution of the marque over its seven decades,” said event director Bas Bungish.

Classic Ferraris won’t be restricted to the 70th anniversary display either, as single-seaters, sports racers and modern supercars will be representing the marque in another of the show’s attractions, The Perfect Ten.

Fifty of the world’s most desirable classics under ten headings – saloon, coupé, convertible, sports car, supercar, hatchback, shooting break, sports racer, streamliner and single-seater – will be paraded along The Grand Avenue, a roadway that runs through the centre of the show. The Grand Avenue allows visitors to see and hear their favourites in action and indoors – no need to brave the elements outside.

New for this year is The Grand Avenue’s Open Paddock, allowing visitors to get even closer to the star cars while another innovation is the Beaulieu Pop-up Autojumble. Top-class stalls will bring a flavour of the world-famous autojumble to London by selling classic car parts, books and magazines and motoring ephemera.

The Pop-up Autojumble will form part of Car Club Square where some of the country’s leading one-make clubs will be staging displays of their favourite machines and with club members on hand to discuss the merits of their chosen marque or model.

Now in its third year, the London Classic Car Show is bigger than ever and will have more than 700 stunning classic cars on display, some for sale from leading dealers in the classic world.

And this year it incorporates a second show, Historic Motorsport International (HMI), which is devoted to historic racing and rallying and will include 50th anniversary celebrations for the Ford DFV Grand Prix engine and the birth of Formula Ford.

Entry to the London Classic Car Show incorporates free entry to HMI. Historic Motorsport International will open its doors at 12 noon on Thursday, 23 February while the London Classic Car Show will burst into life at 3pm that afternoon.

JACKY ICKX TO BE GUEST OF HONOUR AT LONDON’S FINEST
CLASSIC CAR SHOW.

• Special tribute to the world’s greatest all-round driver planned
• Ickx and Derek Bell reunited 35 years after their last Le Mans win together
• VIP guests include four Le Mans legends with 17 wins between them – Ickx, Bell, Emanuele Pirro and Jürgen Barth
• Tickets for star-studded Gala Evening on sale

Legendary Le Mans pairing Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell will be teaming up again for a special appearance at the London Classic Car Show (23-26 February, ExCeL London).

Ickx, regarded as the world’s greatest all-round racing driver with Grand Prix and Paris-Dakar wins to go with his six Le Mans victories and two World Endurance titles, will be guest of honour at the exhibition.

A special display will showcase several of the iconic cars he raced and rallied while Ickx will appear live on stage to discuss his remarkable career with broadcaster and journalist Henry Hope-Frost.

They will be joined by five time Le Mans winner Britain’s Derek Bell, MBE. Ickx and Bell shared the top step of the 24 Hours podium three times – in 1975 (Mirage) and 1981 and 1982 (Porsche).

As former Ferrari Grand Prix and sports car drivers, Ickx and Bell will also be talking about those chapters of their respective driving careers. Twenty of the greatest road cars to wear the Prancing Horse badge – and together worth more than £120 million – will form one of the major displays at the show to celebrate the legendary Italian company’s 70th birthday.

Ickx and Bell will also be VIP guests at the show’s star-studded Gala Evening (Thursday, 23 February) where they will be joined by two other Le Mans superstars – Emanuele Pirro, who claimed five victories for Audi, and Jürgen Barth, who won in 1977 sharing a Porsche with Ickx. Together the quartet can claim 17 victories at Le Sarthe.

Bell said: “Sharing a car with Jacky at Le Mans was one of the high points of my career. I am looking forward to sharing a stage with him at the London Classic Car Show and remembering some of the great times we had together.”

Ickx’s timetable starts at 12 noon on Thursday (23 February) when the Belgian officially opens the inaugural Historic Motorsport International, the London Classic Car Show’s new sister exhibition, which is staged in an adjacent hall within the ExCeL London complex.

He will then transfer to the London Classic Car Show when that opens at 3pm and, as well as joining in the celebrations at Thursday’s gala evening, he will appear live on stage on both Thursday and Friday to talk about his career which includes success in F1, World Sportscars and Dakar.

“This is a huge privilege for me to be a guest of honour at these two shows in the heart of London. Whether it was winning Le Mans three times with Derek or competing at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, I have always had a wonderful relationship with the British racing community and that’s why I am so thrilled to have these very special dates in my diary,” said Ickx.

I was invited to show my car as one of the 60 on the centre roadway but the event runs for four days which would have been a huge investment of my time with the expense of hotel bills to stay in London. I was surprised that the organisers were not intending to cover any expenses saying many people attend for all 4 days with their cars for the privilege of it. I would have got some entry tickets. Confused

ALVIS GRABS THE HEADLINES AS ORDER BOOKS OPEN FOR CONTINUATION CLASSICS.

• 50 years after its demise, the ‘Red Triangle’ re-emerges
• Glorious Graber-bodied TF21 from 1966 reborn
• Pre-war Coachbuilt supercars take to The Grand Avenue
• Alvis Brooklands Special also stars on the indoor runway
• Date confirmed for The London Classic Car Show in 2018

Fifty years after Alvis stopped making cars, the company is back and its order book is open. And the company will have a significant presence at the London Classic Car Show (23-26 February, London ExCeL) to mark the occasion.

Unlike some marque revivals, The Alvis Car Company isn’t simply attaching the famous ‘Red Triangle’ badge to the front of a modern supercar but instead is recreating genuine supercars from an earlier age.

Among the Alvis cars at the capital’s premier classic car show will be a stunning 1966 Graber-bodied TF21 (below bottom row), made in the company’s penultimate year, and a wonderful 4.3 drophead coupé with Lancefield coachwork from 1937 (above). The cars are originals but Alvis is offering hand-built facsimiles of both as part of a limited run of Continuation Models.

The Graber and Lancefield cars can be seen and heard in action as they will be taking part in one of the show’s major displays, The Perfect Ten. Sixty of the world’s greatest classic cars in ten categories – saloon, coupé, convertible, sports car, supercar, hatchback, shooting break, sports racer, streamliner and single-seater – will be paraded along The Grand Avenue, an automotive catwalk that runs through the centre of the show.

Another original that’s also now available as an Alvis Continuation Model, the head-turning Bertelli-bodied 4.3-litre Sports Coupé from 1935 (below middle row), will be shown on the company’s display stand.

A fourth Alvis, a unique Brooklands racer known as the Powys-Lybbe Special (below top row) after its original creator, amateur racer Antony Powys-Lybbe, will be a further of The Perfect Ten entrants. Based on a 1931 Alvis 12/60 ‘Beetleback’, it had been given a lighter and narrower body and ran at over 90mph on the outer Brooklands circuit.

Richard Joyce, managing director of The Alvis Car Company, said: “Our Continuation Cars are as close to the originals as we can get. We have had to make some modifications to ensure they comply with current Individual Vehicle Approval regulations but essentially the idea is to give owners the same supercar driving experience that owners had when the cars were new. And when you bear in mind that the 4.3 Tourer had a 0-60mph time of 11.3 seconds back in 1938, there’s no denying these were the supercars of their day.”

Alvis is just one of the many grand marques that will be featured at the show. Another major display brings together twenty of the greatest Ferrari road cars, worth an estimated £120 million. This special showcase is being curated with the help of renowned London-based performance car expert Joe Macari.

New for this year is The Grand Avenue’s Open Paddock, allowing visitors to get even closer to the star cars while another innovation is the Beaulieu Pop-up Autojumble. Some top-class stalls will bring a flavour of the world-famous autojumble to London by selling classic car parts, books and magazines and motoring ephemera.

The Pop-up Autojumble will form part of Car Club Square where some of the country’s leading one-make clubs will be staging displays of their favourite machines and will have club members on hand to discuss the merits of their chosen marque or model.

Now in its third year, the London Classic Car Show is bigger than ever and will have more than 700 stunning classic cars on display, some for sale from leading dealers in the classic world. The show has always attracted star names and this year’s visitors will include Le Mans Legends Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell as guests of honour.

This year, the London Classic Car Show even incorporates a second show, Historic Motorsport International (HMI), which is devoted to historic racing and rallying.

As well as countless motor sport specialists, championship organisers, competition car dealers and race teams, special displays will celebrate 50 years of both Formula Ford and the all-conquering Ford DFV F1 engine. Also planned is a thrilling presentation underlining the breadth of historic machinery that will be taking part in the Silverstone Classic festival in July.

An open forum on Thursday and Friday, the Historic Motorsport Conference Programme – hosted in the show’s Supagard Theatre by motorsport broadcaster Henry Hope-Frost and with expert opinions from leading names in the historic motorsport world – will debate a wide variety of topics including Scrutineering and Eligibility, Driving Standards and Safety and the Promotion and Marketing of Historic Motorsport.

With The London Classic Car Show going from strength-to-strength and the instant success of its new HMI sister show, the organisers have already confirmed dates for both events in 2018. Bas Bungish, Group Event Director said: “HMI has been a fantastic addition to The London Classic Car Show and the two events complement each other superbly. We’re already in discussions with partners for next year’s events which again will combine at ExCeL London and run from 22 to 25 February, 2018.”

In the meantime, next month’s HMI will be officially opened by racing legend Jacky Ickx at 12 noon on Thursday, 23 February, with the London Classic Car Show opening its door later in the afternoon in readiness for a special, star-studded Gala Evening honouring Le Mans legends including six-time winner Ickx and five-time winners Derek Bell and Emanuele Pirro.
