Way back before the war, the Foreman of the Stroud Bus Company Trim shop owned this sewing machine. It was his pride and joy and when he died he left it to John Hemming who'd just finished his apprenticeship with Jelf's in Gloucester. John was starting out on his own and it was on condition he keep it.

In nineteen sixty three my mum and I went to John's workshop in Stroud and I spotted this huge Singer. On its own it weighs 45 Kilos! I love mechanical things and this was a gem. A year later John Trimmed my MGPA and again I saw the machine. Then I went to work in London and forgot about it, but John's business grew and he bought another factory called Chalford Chairs where, amongst other prestigious jobs he did, he built special arm chairs for Cyril Smith.

John is very ill now and retired, but my son needed a bigger machine than the current industrial ones and started looking for a serviceable Singer 132k6. They'll sew your hands together.

I went to see John and he still had it and would sell it. It's never been restored, hardly ever been used because lighter machines are easier for most work, so it's in amazing condition and is up and running after about an hours work from Mike the Sewing Machine Man.



It's perfect for binding heavy Wilton carpets with 1.5mm Vaumol or stitching a row of pleats to a horse shoe and piping as well as quite a few other tricky jobs you get in old Rollers, Bugatti and WHY.

Great to see these things surviving, and in use. I particularly like the small lamp attachment.
