Same here. Sometimes it is so bad (too long to wait for a page to appear) I am sorry to say I just do not wait for it and go to other sites.

| It slowed down here a while back, but compared with the many hardships that life can throw at us, I guess if it is the worst thing that happens to me in my life I will be very fortunate. |

The speed of the site is not an issue compared with the lack of posters. Especially those that post with a question, ignore the reply to post their location, name etc. it seems impossible to get long time members to post their location but new members should be blocked unless they put their location. Being fairly new to this site I wonder is it busier once people start thinking about getting their cars out.

Hi Paul,
There are posters who ask questions and don't appear to acknowledge replies in all forums. That's life, but not everything is what it seems. I answered a question recently from a new poster and they sent me a very nice appreciative PM to which I replied but of course the PMs are not available to other readers.

I don't think the Forum is much different from any group, whether it be work, church, social, yoga class or whatever. If one cuts a slice through the membership, one tends to come up with the same characters.
I no longer have a classic and as regard to renovation-repair skills, I am a long way down the list. Sometimes, a comment gets under my skin and I am sure that mine can do the same to others. There are some who join the forum as a "free ride" and only ask, but isn't that life ?
Members leave for various reasons, I got my "knickers in a twist" years back and left, but the only person missing me, was me.
So I help where I can, put in posts that sometimes create interest and try and remember to say thank you.
If I have one major grumble that you have referred to and Rick has brought up, is lack of location. If there was just one rule that had to be obeyed, then it would be location. Just a county, city, state, or even the country is 100% better than "blank".
Question for Rick.... is mandatory location possible/desirable ? |

I think too many rules and regulations can make for an unwelcoming environment, there are a couple around the placing of advertisements and so on, but that's pretty much it. It'd be nice to know where people are located, but I don't see it as being a deal-breaker TBH.

Thanks John, In replying just now I got about a 10 second lag and the info bottom left was "Waiting for www.oldclassiccar.co.uk.." rather than any ad stuff and I had a similar wait after hitting the submit button.
I was very disappointed by Thirlestane last year and won't go this year but might see you at Biggar.

My thoughts pretty much echo Rick's here, but I do get annoyed by people placing adverts (through any medium) for cars or parts - stuff that pretty much has to be collected in person - with no location, and often only a mobile phone number to boot. I'm not after a full street address, but the county or nearest large town will let me know if the travelling is feasible and thus if the advert is worth following up. |
