But I'll see if I can smuggle it past those in authority.
Can a large twist drill be ground to cut a semi circular depression in a block of metal to act as a mould? The reason is I'm trying to cast ball type sea fishing weights!
Cheers, Tony. |

I would say yes if you mean a domed bottomed hole. The biggest problem might be accurately positioning it because it will try to wander, so maybe use a standard drill to start the hole and use the reground one to finish it off. _________________ Volvo Sugga ,Volvo Trygge

Hi
Why drill into metal?
Surely a block of Oak would serve just as well.
Are you using lead for the weights? It isn't as hot in liquid form as many other metals which are heavy enough for weights. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I've made quite a few weight moulds from aluminium on the lathe using round bar but I wanted to make a row of moulds in various sizes but cannot mount a long block in the 4 jaw chuck with any accuracy.
I intend to cut two blocks match them up, drill though where I want the moulds, open the blocks, drill usin the 'modyfied drill then close the drilled holes with ally rivets.
Cheers and thanks once again. Tony. |

Penman - I have ally, I don't have oak.
