Hello
Fairly new to the forum.
I'm re-commisoning my grandfathers 1955 Hillman Minx and wondered what the procedure is for letting the DVLA know that she's going back on the road? Obviously she's mot and tax exempt, and as of Monday she will be insured. I guess my question is, what else do I need to do before being able to legally drive her?
Thank you in advance.
Great forum by the way

You need to register it in your name unless your grandfather is going to use it insure and tax it. Obviously no money will change hands but the fact you do it will wake it up on the system. _________________ Volvo Sugga ,Volvo Trygge

Funny enough I looked last night and it's still on the system. Apparently last taxed in 84. I have the logbook from 1970 (from memory) in my grandad's name which I would like to keep (my grandad passed away in 89). Of course I could just phone the DVLA but I'm not sure they would be that helpful. |

Thanks Rick, really appreciate everyone's help. So is it just a case of taking the V62 to the post office and taxing it when the insurance starts on Monday?
Sorry for all the questions.
Many thanks in advance |

Mmmm not sure, I've only ever used V62 long before a car's been ready to go back on the road tbh. After I received the V5C I SORNd until such time as it is ready to go off for an MOT.

If it was last taxed in 1984, then it will need to be reclassified as a Historic Vehicle in order to qualify for zero tax. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I think they changed it a few years ago so that you need the V5 in your name first to be able to tax it. Thieves were moving stolen cars on by taxing and applying for a V5 in one go (as used to be possible, done it myself) then flogging them once the V5 came through - and once upon a time the DVLA were pretty quick. |
