I wonder if anybody can help I am looking for a modem equivalent oil for any of these 1930s gearbox oils?
Gearbox oils
GearBox - Mobiloil GS, Shell Gear oil H, Castro Gear oil H.
Dashpot - Double Shell, Castro XL, Mobiloil BB.
I'm attempting to refurb a De Normanville Gearbox dated 1936 possibly the only one left, and the above oils, are the the oils recommended for this box. Any help appreciated ! _________________ Peter |

If you are a purist in terms of lubrication then http://www.millersoils.co.uk/
will have a product equivalent to the original oils specified.
Synthetic oils save you from the various modes of breakdown suffered by mineral oils and you could simply select a synthetic of equivalent viscosity. The only thing to be careful about is to avoid using hypoid oils in anything that has bronze or other yellow metal type parts in it.
