Sorry, this is a bit of an anorak find. Interesting description under these factory pictures. Taken before the 3 Litre was introduced.

CONFIDENTIAL UNTIL OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE

It calls the car "Austin Westminster 3-Litre". As far as I know the Westminster name was never to be added / given to the 3 Litre. Must have been a last minute decision then.

Gosh that takes me back to 1978, my early 1969 3 litre was a manual overdrive, it had a prodigious thirst for petrol and oil, but so smooth. I was only 22 and skint so it had to go, the Renault 4 that replaced it was a complete polar opposite!

http://www.oldtechnology.net/austin3l.html

"The 3-Litre was designed in 1963 as a replacement for the Farina-styled Austin Westminster (an, indeed, the original 3-Litre press photos were titled "The Austin Westminster 3-Litre") although it was not until 1968 that the cars were to finally hit the showrooms - having dropped the "Westminster" name altogether."

Never thought they got the front right but the twin headlights of production models looked better
