Hi all
I own an Austin A30 (803cc) 1956 vintage and I have recently acquired a Morry Thou engine. I want to rebuild this engine and I need to know the cc of it. The engine came from a 1966 Thou but I don't know if it's original and I don't know the engine history. It has a cone shape air filter and an SU carb and at the side of the engine near the back it has a metal plate which has 1100 on it. Does this mean that the engine is a 1098? The vin plate is non existent for the engine number.
Any help greatly appreciated.
VMT

Hi John and welcome to the forum

It might be tricky to be accurate if the engine number has been removed. If it is there, BMC used the following codes up to 1970 for the A series, these would be the 1st digits on the plate;

8 :803cc
9 :948cc
10:1098
12: 1275cc

After 1970 these were the 1st digits.
85 :848cc
99 :998cc
10 :1098cc
12 :1275cc

As far as I'm aware BMC didn't use an 11 prefix , this may have been an engine re-builders own code, it may have started life ans a smaller engine and then been bored out ? hence possibly the removal of the original plate? you may have to whip the head off and measure the capacity.
