|
|
My V8 Pilot had an electric fan fitted by a previous owner, but is operated by a toggle switch on the dash. Ideally I would like a thermostat switch to operate it automatically, and possibly retain the manual switch.
Has anyone done this on their classic, and if so can they point me to a decent quality one?
Thanks in advance. |

i got one from ebay a complete set with a radiator probe, easy to fit and works fine once you decide on when the fan should come on. |

just wire the stat and dash switch in parallel, then you can let the stat do its job but override to switch on if necessary.

Yes Ray, I've inherited the fan, but it operates manually only. I was just asking if anyone can recommend a reliable stat operated switch. Most appear to be made in China and look a bit cheap and nasty. |

They sell the ''Revotec'' fan switches..
These consist of a length of aluminium tube/pipe, which is inserted into the top hose [with clamps.]
They sell various diameters of pipe to suit.
The prices are also aimed at the well-heeled ''classic car owner'', who must have cash to spare?
Also available at various other go-faster specialists..who might be cheaper? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

That's right, Sid. The one I have is pretty cheap and nasty. Before Covid did for my business I would have probably have gone for one of those that Alastair says are for the well heeled....
I think my "well heeled" days are gone so I shall have to put up with a lot more cheap and nasty stuff before my time is up.
Still, I try to put a brave face on it with sayings like "worse things happen at sea!" |

Well I'm certainly not a well healed classic car owner, or well healed anything come to that. Maybe I'll carry on looking at the bargain basement end of the market, I certainly can't justify over £60 just for a switch.
I'm just not happy buying anything with "Made in China" on it at the moment. |

You should still only use the thermostat to switch a relay to operate the fan.

Interesting, those fixed temp switches. To be mounted against the upper radiator tank I presume. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

That looks like the best option for me. |

That looks like the best option for me. | What you commenly see in the automotive industry is that anything electrical has a huge price hike when its sold as an automotive component e.g. a 50p capacitor is repackaged as a £5 condensor (condensor being the old name for a capacitor that the rest of industry moved from 50+ years ago !) similar with these stats.
