The performance of that Hudson straight 8 engine in a sports version is very impressive and I bet that saloon will be a real wolf in sheep's clothing.

I'd prefer a Railton!
On a visit to a 'local' garage, which specialised in tuning [they had a rolling road and a long thin screwdriver], many years ago, there was a Railton with a 'special' 2 seat body, in to have quad SU's and linkages made.
I liked the interesting Hudson straight eight....All engine and a bucket seat! Marvellous. _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

I too really liked the Railton open two seater. About 40 years ago there was one on load to small motor museum near Edinburgh that I was fascinated by. I loved the huge "flat head" engine.
I think there is also an airborne photo of a Railton cresting the Test Hill and I would have used that but I couldn't find it.
Peter
p.s. Found it!

Peter. That is an amazing photo. I remember my Dad saying how the Brooklands authorities stopped motorcycles from using the test hill after Geoff Duke nearly came to grief. (Geoff and my Dad were the same age).
I didn't know cars were taking off as well! |

Yes, for a 1930s car it's an impressive performance. Rick's ebay car has essentially the same Hudson engine but I suspect it wouldn't manage the altitude of these light weights.

That's a lot of motor car for the price of an Austin Twelve; I'm not a great fan of American metal, but ... _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

The caption is not that clear. It might be that this is Cyril Mann's car with someone else driving, or CM himself.
I wondered Rays question, thinking he might knew the man himself and was surprised to see someone else in his car. Or something like that. But no, it is just that Ray is not sharp enough.
However points to you Ray for mentioning CM if you did not read the caption! _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |
