Anyone have any plans for the new year with their classics? Outings, Shows or finishing restorations? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

We were supposed to be doing a tour in the Netherlands and Germany in 2020 but had to cancel our ferry and hotel bookings. The event was tentatively scheduled for around Easter this past year and that has now become this coming year but we still haven't felt confident enough to re-book anything.

When all this started I was terribly ill with what I now suspect to have been Covid 19... but it may just have been a bad bout of flu?. I don't suppose I will ever know for sure but the after effects lasted for months and I am now weaker than I was before.
I doubt I could survive another episode like that again.
This new Covid variant may be milder than the 'Delta' one but but I sure as hell don't want to risk catching it... so I will not be attending any events next year. |

Nothing specific but the plan is to get out and about as much as possible, to make up for last year. 2021 we did get to a few shows, more than I thought we would, but 2020 was a write-off.
I'd like to see the Prefect on the button and usable, and take big Dodge somewhere, plus I'd still like a practical classic for longer trips out (the Volvo didn't really fit in and has now gone to a new home) - I have seen a potential candidate but it's too much £ at the moment.

To start the new year off I'll be attending a pre-war car meeting at Pembridge in Herefordshire on New Year's Day. Just have to hope it doesn't get cancelled at the last minute like it was this year (different location) and the little Morris wakes from its winter slumber. _________________ 1989 2CV

First plan for me is to move on and finish our 1942 Commer ready for shows this summer. I think it will be done if I can start putting in more hours than usual... _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Many plans.
1. Finish the Microsquirt installation in the XJS. This car had problems with its ECU. This had some changes done to it when it was newly imported to the US back in 1986, a lambda sensor was installed then presumably to get exhaust emission more under control. When I got the car it ran reasonably well but there were gaps in the pickup of the engine from lower rpms. And sometimes there were start problems.
After much deliberation I decided to get rid of the ECU and install a modern alternative. Microsquirt, the compact already-built version of Megasquirt, seems a perfect programmable solution when you want to use fuel injection. It has been on the market for many years and is widely used amongst DIY (classic) car builders. There is much help for it out there.
I am nearly finished with the hardware bit (connecting MS wires to OEM wires) and hope to get it running with help of a laptop. Then the fun starts, tuning on the laptop.
2. Get the Elite roadworthy. Needs a bit of work, mainly interior stuff. Then get it registered here. I am not expecting many problems.
3. Add a LPG tank to the Interceptor. This will help in using the car more, it really is quite expensive to run
4. Start on the Alpine. The steering wheel needs either a repair or replacement: on one side all 4 spokes are broken from the hub. I sourced a good steering wheel from a Sunbeam Talbot saloon which is a little different to the Alpine, but it seems this does not fit the Alpine. I do have a lead on another wheel from an Alpine but I have to be sure first I cannot make the ST wheel to fit.
5. House work. Current house is our old end of terrace house joined with a converted bath house. Plan is to separate these and live on in the bath house. "Just" need a bath room and two bedrooms need to be built on top of the garage and a kitchen to be installed. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

I'm hoping to get the bodywork finished on the project car so it can be painted and put back together. With problems on the modern car taking priority it was nice to get back to it for a couple of days, but I still have some things to fix on the modern yet.
Oh, and tidy the shed to make better use of the space. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

Wolseley is prepped and ready for some paint, but conditions are either too cold or too damp at the moment, with the air temp going up and down and condensation running riot some days. So operations on hold for now.
Have drained off all of the old petrol from the Citroen and put in some fresh E5, together with a conditioner. Need to be brave now and have a few longer runs in it when the weather permits.
Will be taking the Volvo to the New Year's Day meet at The Corner House in Wrightington, tomorrow. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction
