I really don't know what to make of that project?
Regardless of the price (which after all is no guarantee of value) I can't see how a car like this can ever be regarded as an historic vehicle without an original chassis? |

Given the amount of publicity this has received, I can see the DVLA agreeing with you, Ray! 150PH doesn't appear on their database, so that's unlikely to be re-issued to the reconstruction. At best I can see it being issued with a Q-plate, and more likely it will not be possible to register it at all. But I suppose someone could build it up as a track-only car, and no doubt Goodwood would welcome it with open arms. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I saw that one too. Beautiful looking car; probably bid to a realistic figure but the owner was presumably influenced by the prices paid for trailer queens. It was a very nice usable car with supposedly the wrong engine?
What I am unsure of is that some later cars DID have a Ford Zephyr engine. I presume that was not not one of them... but does it really matter?? |

Indeed they did. Bristol stopped making their 2 litre 6 pot engine in, I think, 1960 or 61.
So AC took on board the Ford 2.6 litre 6 pot Zephyr engine, tuned of course. [Possibly a Raymond Mays cylinder head too]...
This was more powerful than the Bristol engine...and in my view, a better engine for a ''user''.....parts being available more easily than for a Bristol.

The above seems to acknowledge the presence of heritage shells, replica chassis, etc.
So it may be possible to re-claim the original registration mark, if a replica tube chassis can be constructed? Money, obviously, being no object.
Mind, building a proper replica chassis for my Dellow [not that it needs one] would, if being correct, involve obtaining chrome moly steel tube....or, better still, to be really really original, the bodies from WW2 vintage RPG3 or 4 rockets. joined together, as Dellow did [steel shortages in the early 1950's.]
Mind, an old chum of mine was building a Moran F2, when all he had was half a Morgan chassis side, and the gearbox....to start with!  _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

In the late eighties I was interested in one of the 37 Zephyr-engined cars, but decided against it in the end. I do rmeember that the asking price was not much more than 10% of this jigsaw puzzle though. Apparently one of these cars was sold for not far short of £500,000 not long back, so it seems a feasible project. |

I would imagine if one had all the missing parts to hand, then, given some deep pockets a lot of experience and the patience of a Saint, it could be a viable project..... but that said it could just as easily run into the sand.  |
