Hi there - below is an album cover from 1971 by the Irish band Thin Lizzy - I have been trying to identify the car in the headlight, in the centre of the image but have had mixed results. Any thoughts much appreciated. Alan

| hey thanks - have looked at some F-Type Vauxhall Victor pics and the shape certainly seems spot on, especially the strips on the side of the car - only thing is the indicator lights are a different shape, ie square in my pic - maybe just a different model from the pics I have seen so far? |

Rick it's not an F-Type. the back door is different.
I think it could be eastern European

I think it is actually a F-Type Vauxhall Victor Super - that one seems to have squarish front indicators

it's unlikely that it's eastern european judging from the houses in the background which are typical brick victoian/edwardian housing from the UK or Ireland
odd altho to use that car in the 70's considering it came out in the late 50's but hey maybe it's a play on 'old' out of date cars? or just the kind that people drove in those neighbourhoods or the band or something!
thanks for ur time guys |

Mystery solved; it is one of the original 1957 F type Victors. It had a facelift about 1961 with different grille, bumpers, and doors, but the windscreen still popped out if you tried to raise it with a trolley jack under the front suspension

Its a clever use of 2 fish eye shots
First Thin Lizzy album I remember was "Live and Dangerous" it was one of those "must have" albums at school! just before new wave got popular! |

"whiskey in the jar" ..... one of me favourites....
cars and rock-n-roll music are intertwined.... even "pop" music from the teens and twenties celebrated the automobile! (and it's unauthorised recreational uses!) |

Well this confirms the F-Type with a good frontal view of the over-riders

The first single I ever bought was 'The Boys Are Back In Town' c/w 'Emerald' by Thin Lizzy & it was from from Woolworths for 79p. _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!

Ok thanks everyone for confirming the identity of the car as a F-Type Vauxhall Victor Super.
I am now wondering if anyone knows anyone who might have some good photos of the car - I have got a certain amount on line but there are none of the rear of the car.
To explain what I am up to - I am making a sculpture from the photo of the Thin Lizzy car pic - making a 3d version of what you see in the photo. I have decided to collapse the rest/rear to make it not too long as it has to hang from a tree (its a long story!!). So behind the fish-eye part the sculpture will resemble a semi-crushed car.
Hope this does not put anyone off...
Thanks,
Alan |

What have I forgotten to do, on that last post, to make the picture show? |
