Hi

I was in bed most of yesterday with a virus of some kind, didn't have the energy to do anything else, and had a bad stomache. I feel better, but still tired today, so am gazing out of the window, at a really nice morning. I awoke just as it was coming light, and have been watching it get ever brighter. I should be outside, I hate being couped up, maybe a wonder after dinner somewhere, maybe not.

Anyway this morning I have spent a few hours searching the net for a Penny Farthing (Ordinary) to buy, but have had no luck yet. I have seen the one on ebay, but for £650 with very few original parts, I am a bit sceptical. I have seen one in London, from the late 1880's which is just over £1000, but that is slightly too small for me.

Anyway, I will carry on looking for a couple of hours, you never know, there may be just the thing, on page 400 of googles results! hehe

Sorry to hear your crook (Aussie for sick).....I too would like a nice original Ordinary....not many around that have not been fiddled with.
I normally go up to Evandale every year for the World Penny Farthing Championships, they have the daredevils riding a circuit around the town and they get up to frightening speeds on them.
Unfortunately nowadays most are repro's but the diehards still bring out the original jobs.

Yea!!! Someone who doesn't think I am weird wanting to ride an orriginal ordinary around! Can you speak to my parents! hehe

There is a similar 10 yearly race over here, next being 2010, which I want to take part in.

Do you have a replica?

As you may have seen I made a crud - ish replica last year, but it has done the job, let me learn to ride them, without wrecking an orriginal.

I am sending off to join the Veteran Cycle club tomorow, have the application ready, just needs posting.

I like your pic, if you have any others, I would love to see them, I will see if I can dig some of my oics out and post them here for you, if you like?

I would love to hear more about this race in Evandale, maybe one day in the distant future I could combine a holiday and a little racing! hehe

I do believe if you travel on a 747 you can package a PF and take it to check in, they have to check it in, as a PF is a Push bike, maybe worth a go, but do you trust a plane crew with your PF.

Racing isn't dangerous! hehe I think someone told me there were only a few ambulances needed in 2000! hehe

G'day all
3 more photos taken on the same day...it's really a village fair wrapped around a Penny Farthing race....everything is there!
It is taken very seriously though....they do get up to fantastic speeds on the bikes.
Displays of vintage m/cycles, steam engines, vintage cars and an antique market all add to a great day.
