This ticks nearly all the boxes. Not sure about black, though. I shall follow the auction with interest.

I think prices are probably being dragged up on the coat tails of more illustrious models of Lagonda. I seem to remember when these quality saloons were undervalued and quite cheap.
They can be rather thirsty if you have a heavy right foot ...which for many will still be a consideration these days. |

It looks nice but the Motor Road Test figures are rather less than impressive for a mid 1950s car in that class.
Four speed, no overdrive, top gear 17.7 mph/1000 rpm!
With such low gearing you might expect good top gear acceleration but 10.4 seconds 40-60 mph is not impressive.
It's doing near enough 4000 rpm at 70 mph and if it got to the 110 mph talked of in the advert it would be spinning at 6200 rpm.
Admittedly the touring fuel consumption of 19.9 mpg is pretty reasonable.

| It is a very nice looking car. It is not meant to be a sports sedan, built more for comfort I imagine and looks. |

Really nice car but I would always be afraid of the high costs for engine parts.
Ten years ago we overhauled the engine of a DB4 which needed new pistons and bearings. Costs compared to the Jaguar XK engine were 4 to 6 times higher. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

For comfort I would question the high engine revs for cruising.

Probably mentioned before, but:-
For anybody who knew the East Riding of Yorkshire, especially back in the 1980's......
On the road twixt Driffield and Bridlington, at the edge of the village of Burton Agnes...
A petrol station was situated,on the first bend.
This was owner by an engineer..who , amongst other things, made Helter Skelters...which could often be seen towering over the building, in the rear yard.
The garage building & workshop itself was, during the mid 1980's, full of old Lagondas.
They were jammed in tight, and not exactly in a pristine condition.
The garage owner was a bit of an odd-bodd, so actually being given permission to 'go & look' was a rarity.
I started living in the village from the mid 1980's...and saw the petrol station change hands, then disappear altogether.
I cannot recall the fella's name, or what happened to his store of old Lagonda saloons.
Sadly, at the time, I wasn't especially a 'classic' car enthusiast....most of what I had to drive was indeed of the banger variety [including a Renault 4...quite the best car I have ever owned, as a daily..even that was 10 years old before I got hold of it]..so a treasure trove of old Lagondas interested me, but didn't stir any enthusiastic juices.
Probably too new for my tastes? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

According to Wiki, despite the model being rare, one was destroyed in a "classic banger" event as late as 2014.
Some things in life beggar belief.
Also, according to the same source the car had a 0 - 60 mph of 12.9 seconds - which is not that tardy. |

| Not that fast by today's modern cars. My 14 year old car was listed as 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. It is a 4litre turbo charged with auto transmission and it is only a Ford not a Jaguar! |
