Have you driven one Rick? They are enormously wide barges, cars that roll heavily, consume dipsomanically, have extra-light steering, and on narrow roads frighten the whatsit out of you. We tiured with my S-type and the MK X back in the day and from to time swapped cars. Even though I didn't really like the S-type, it was far better as a driver's car than the MK X. Here we are lost in France, as the song goes.

If I may offer a different opinion, Lowdrag. I had a fairly in depth relationship with a 420G version one of these (admittedly a long time ago). I would argue that they don't roll that much. In fact, for such a large car the handling is quite impressive. The problem is more to do with the bench seat that offers zero support and so you tend to slide from side to side. On twisty roads, this can be annoying.!

I really like the finger light steering on the later cars; they have the remarkable variable ratio steering box (Marles Adwest varamatic ).Having said that, these later units have the entire weight of the engine bearing down on the long mounting bolts that go through the I beam. One pig of a job to do.!

Yes, they are thirsty beasts but no more than any other behemoth.

One would imagine with a car as big as this there would be plenty of room to work on it. All I can say is that I never want to do another auto gearbox replacement on one. Unbelievable.
