Hi everybody!

I'm new to this forum, and it's great to be here!

I'd like to ask if anyone of you could give me a few tips on the MGA Roadster.

I would be interested in purchasing an MGA, but I'm still I'm not very knowledgable about this model and I'm not sure what I should look out for....

I'd like to buy a car in fairly good conditions, which does not require extensive restoration, and for which elements I should be looking out for when viewing any of these models (i.e. specific weaknesses of the MGA).

Furthermore, I'd like to know in your opinion if it is reasonable to think that I could find a fairly good model for a price of about for £10-12000, possibly with a LHD (driving in Italy is stressful enough...).

Hi and welcome!

I'm restoring an MGA ;a 1957 1500, although it has taken a back seat recently. If you plan to do much driving go for the 1600 a) for the additional power and b) the disc brakes.

If buying in the UK you will get a LHD cheaper than an RHD (RHD steering racks are very rare so cost a fortune!) + nearly all the LHD cars in the UK will have been imported back from warmer climates so have less tin worm. Mechanically you can get everything and nothing costs a fortune (unless you go for the twin cam).
Body wise they can and do rot, check the chassis where it goes under the door, and all round the sill area of the body.
Getting a nice even door, bonnet and boot gap is difficult, so if you find one with a nice even gap its normally a sign that it has been restored well. You should get a decent car in the £10-12K bracket.

If you are buying in the UK talk to Bob West , no one knows more about MGA's than him and he normally has a few for sale
