As I used to be involved with the conversion of redundant Country Houses I always like to find out about their history. When I heard about the (now demolished) Moseley Hall my interest was piqued.
During WW2 the owner of Moseley Hall - a certain Mr Stoddard - a Manchester Mill owner - voluntarily gave over the Hall to accommodate evacuee children. Hats off to him!
Too many of our Country Houses have been lost...and with them our heritage; a rich history that should be cherished.
If I had been involved, the Mansion would have survived as high end residential houses and apartments.

How come everybody else is ignoring the fight?
In my experience if a fight broke out between 2 kids everybody else gathered around it. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

In my experience it is typical bullying tactics; wait until everyone is looking the other way then get stuck in.
At school, I used to get picked on by one particular pupil until I could take it no more. I hit him so hard he was laid out cold. When he came round he ran away and never bothered me again.
I still got caned for fighting, though!. |

Moseley Hall was towards Wilmslow at the bottom of Schools Hill at the start of Cheadle Road.
Ray that picture is the wrong Moseley Hall. Probably not a fight as young ladies did not fight in those days, not at Moseley Hall Grammar that I ever saw!l
The website created by Chris Pickles shows the main building with the whole school in 1950 or it did and I produced a list of many of the names on it, but last time I looked it had disappeared.
I remember one bad winter and the roads were covered in ice and snow (no salting in those days) and the school bus drivers refused to descend Schools Hill, maybe they thought they would never get back up? So we slid down the road on our schoolbags like toboggans.
The school was right on the approach to Ringway (now Manchester Airport) and many of us used to collect the registrations etc. I remember when the first Vickers Viscount was due to arrive right on morning assembly. It arrived on time and we all surged towards the window to get a look at it and the Headmaster went beserk! _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

All the buildings have been cleared and it is now the Village Hotel. _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

My apologies for getting the wrong Mosley Hall. My only excuse is that it is not an uncommon name for old houses in the area. |

Rick. just a thought... could that "vacuum break" thingy be an early type of automatic advance and retard? It worried me that the fitting in the inlet manifold seemed to have a hole through it - like a brake pipe union - and if so, it would be open to the atmosphere and act like an air leak; weakening the mixture.
Of course, with electronic ignition this would become obsolete. |

Yes it does the advance/retard on the original spec dizzy, the plug in the inlet manifold was blocked off, I think it was a cut down bleed nipple but when I first saw it, I too wondered whether it might not be air tight (it was).
