A friend rang me up on Friday to say he'd been given 2 tickets for the Goodwood revival. Ive always wanted to go but couldnt justify the 80somethig quid for admission.
I misunderstood some of the instructions from the car park attendants (ok I ignored and possibly told a couple of fibs) and we ended up in the old car parking area.
A good day out. A bit noisy, Im not used to classic maotr racing.
This was funny

After 4 years of ownership and being unable to find a correct bench seat for the truck I decided to have the non original one recovered. It was dropping to bits. Looks a bit smarter now in leather.
And also more comfortable with new foam.

No plans to sell it.
It's the only car I own.
My wife let's me use her car sometimes. |

My hobby is model engineering. I build lots of different things but locomotives like this are the heaviest. The problem is transporting them when I want to run one. I have been using a 2 wheel trailer which bumps the loco about all over the place, so over the last couple of weeks Ive been doing some alterations to my truck so I can get the largest one in the back. It would be a 4 man lift otherwise.
First I needed a location for the ramp.
Then I made the ramp
There isnt much room left in the back of the truck so I had to mount the 12v winch under the load bed and fabricate a pulley for the cable.

That is is a neat little pickup or ute as we say ! The locos are looking excellent .
A friend of mine had a Austin A40 ute back in the 1970s - the car had a custom made pickup body , a box like affair, but it was a very practical vehicle. I can attest to how strong these cars are because Andy drove the A40 from Melbourne to Perth, across the Nullabor Plain, this was when when the road was rough gravel.
Andy was a clever backyard engineer and he made up a Austin A40 4X4 ute using WW2 Jeep components. He used A40 axle housing centres and grafted on the Willys axle end housings . The first prototype was tested out on a farm and it ran for a long time without much drama. The Second A40 4X4 was to be set up for road use but he never did get it finished. |

From what I have seen here they usually have a ramp with rails up to the right level, and push or drive the train onto a trailer or ute. Removing is the reverse down the ramped rails to the ground level. At home they usually keep them on a bench with rails on it and push or drive them off.

It must have taken quite a bit of time working out exactly how you wanted it... then making it would have been the easiest bit! |
