Well, our village put up some flags and plaques but then did nothing else. Didn't even post it on the village online pages.

So, we took it upon ourselves, my 12 year old son and I, to get the truck out, get all our wartime kit on and we drove up through the village and got permission to park by the recently refurbished war memorial.

It was a lovely sunny evening and locals came out to have a chat and get photos. But, in a village of say 1200 people for only a handful to even take any note of the significance of the day I thought was really poor.

We took the truck along to a D Day event in a town nearby, I put out a small display of wartime tools and such.

We had a really good day, the turn out was brilliant and so many questions asked about the kit from people of all ages. To us its all about education and preserving for future generations.
