Hi Guys,
Only just managed to get 5 minutes to log back in since the problems on here, tried a few weeks back but would not work.
Still hunting for that perfect car. Still looking for a Morris Minor Tourer. Budget is 3-4K max. Found a couple of examples, first was lovely but I got beaten to it, second not so nice but a good price for its condition but have taken a gamble on something better coming up. Not in any rush for the right car.
Seems tracking down a near original example is not so easy, many have been upgraded with new engines from Marina's etc. I'm not against upgraded brakes or seatbelts but I want the orignal engine under the bonnet and that sort of stuff. I don't want it to look molested, I want it to look how it should.
If anyone knows of a suitable example for sale anywhere, can you let me know, thanks |

Aww thanks guys,
Rick, the first car - Overpriced if you ask me as I always seem to find they are on that particular site. Just does not look a 4k car to me. For a car for sale you would have thought they would have made it look nicer therefore showing it has it been cared for. My thinking anyway but then I am a woman!
The second is nice but I have already been considering the last one - seems to be just what I am looking for. Although if I wanted to be fussy I would have a white with red roof car but colour has to take a back seat (excuse the pun!) over condition. I am going to the higher end of the price of Tourers purely to get one that only has the odd minor niggle. I do not have facilities to restore a car, so all must be sound underneath and the car complete. Happy to fit seatbelts and minor stuff but that's about it, I want to drive it when I get it, not torture myself seeing it sat there whilst it is put back together, again that's the female in me!
Already spoken to the lovely guy at Classic Assessments you put me onto, and he will inspect any cars I single out. He was most enthuiastic to hear I was considering a Moggy and was telling me all about how he does the prices on them for practical classics mag.
Just wish that last car was advertised for £500 less then I feel I might be able to beat them down a bit more and get it for 4k but to knock 1K off the price I feel is unattainable given I work for a dealer and know how these things work, *sigh* |

Norfolk, if you work for a car dealer, why not persuade one of the salesmen to go with you to haggle? If anyone can knock a grand off, then they can...if they are worth their salt! |

Umm, I was a salesman, err woman even! Do the admin now. Normal dealer mark up is between 1 & 3k. On one of these I ascertain it is probably cira £1200 to £1500 given its screen price before any refinishing costs are taken out. Therefore I cannot see the car being dropped by a grand. Guess the question to them does not hurt but I am guessing it will be a no. Will ask. |

A woman and a salesman? You've got every chance of getting the price down...we men dont expect womenfolk to haggle.... |

I think the green one is a bit overpriced,considering it's a "bitser".
A 1000 front end on a split rear?Just doesn't look right somehow. |

Hi
Just another view on this, is there any chance you would buy a rough one, and either restore it yourself, or if you want a turn key model of one, get a rough one cheap engough, then pay within your budget to get it done by a garage. There are plenty of people who could do this, pannels are available aren't they? Are there moggy garages that specialise? Might be worth looking in to, that way, you know what you have, not a car full of filler, and you get it how you want, including the colour! hehehe
Cheers

Hi Poodge,
I don't think it's quite as much of a bitser as you think. The Series II Minor with the 803 cc engine had a spit screen and the horizontal slatted grill that continued into the Morris 1000. The wrong components on the front are the orange/white side lamps from the mid '60s. Apart from the lights the rear looks correct for a 1956 car too.
Peter
p.s. It's funny that you brought this up because I was wondering about the black car and whether there were 803 cc cars with the MM grill and dashboard. [/img]

ahh you beat me to it - I was just thinking the same, I once had a '56 and I recall that it was the changeover year for the grille, although I agree it should have the small white sidelights

What about the black car though? I suspect it is correct too. I can't imagine anyone wanting to swap in an 803 to replace a side valve.
