I have owned these books for many years now, I actually found them in a lovely second hand book shop in Cardiff when I was a student there...

I've often wondered what became of the chap who originally owned these books?

Can't quite make out the name. What year(s) do the books date from? Original or later edition?
On ABE Books I've seen the Young and Pryer book as a '36 English Universities Press version or a '47 Hodder & Stoughton.

The details written inside are 'JW Roberts, 124 Almond St, Derby, 1941', then the others dated 1942.

With luck the 1939 register may show a Roberts family at that address. If a JW Roberts is visible that means now deceased and a search of the deaths register should confirm that where and when, but if there is a redacted entry that could be your JW, there is a redacted entry on my parents address and I believe it is one of the evacuees they had. If there is a readable entry it will show occupation or school/college status.

I would have used a shorter link but tiny url doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Showing 503 unavailable

EDIT Tiny is now back up.

The mid terraced house still exists; if that helps.

All these properties were built for employees at either Rolls Royce or the Railway works. Judging from where it is located I would guess it would most likely be a Rolls Royce house.

I would add that it is doubtful that the house is still occupied by the Roberts family.
