Whilst at a car show yesterday I saw many familiar faces, one chap was my college Lecturer from many years back and I see him every year at this show.
He has a handful of classics in various states of repair and her was telling me that he was losing his storage of the last 20 years...a familiar type of story to many of us.
He said I must come along to the barn where his vehicles are stored as its been sold for development so I can see the historical features inside???
We talked more and it turns out that the storage barn that he rents is the actual barn where the Grenville Steam Carriage (on display at Beaulieu) was built back in the 1870s!!! The barn still has many of its steam driven gear that the chap also developed.
What an absolute shame to hear a building as important as this to the early days of motoring is to be lost to another upmarket housing conversion. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

That is quite shocking!!
Has no one tried to spot list it?
If not, I suggest you contact 'Historic England' and see what they can suggest. |

When he told me I was surprised that he hadn't tried to do something about it. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Well, my Father and I headed down to Beaulieu yesterday for the autojumble and made sure we stopped in the museum on the way out to have another good look at the steam car. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |
