I wouldn't be surprised!
What would surprise me though is that Lexus would could allow such a thing. Their reputation hangs on the reliability of their cars and having a customer be let down without a moment's warning is not a good look. After all, they guarantee their main battery ( in this case a hybrid) for the life of the car so long as they continue to service it. With this kind of deal, the residual value is also enhanced; which is not to be sniffed at.
Putting future car sales at risk for the sake of a 12 v battery doesn't make financial sense which ever way you look at it. |

The battery had a three year warranty and it died literally overnight... virtually to the day of the warranty expiry!!

I "dont" get that ! I retired my old olden Jackaroo several years ago and its battery was put in August 2014 and when I took it off licence, I gave the battery to my brother who is using it in his old Landrover farm paddock hack. It is still going now, even at over 11 years old, so if one can do it why can't they all, (or at least "most"). |

| Given the sudden failure, Ray's wifes Lexus battery has probably had a simple failure of connection between cells or the posts. In 3rd world countries they would cut the top of the battery off, repair the connection, glue the top back on and after a few mins work have a perfectly usable battery. |

| I was a bit disappointed that the Lexus people stuck to their guns and insisted Jean pay for a new battery. They did at least fit for free... but I could have done that in a few minutes. |

A good battery, providing kept charged, can last 15 years. The one on my Daimler V8 250 is now 14 years old, needs a frequent recharge but still starts the car. _________________ Daimler Fifteen 1934 (now sold)

| I would have pushed the Lexus dealer, especially if they provided the vehicle new. Warranty is a statutory thing, if you bought the car new in good faith, the one would expect a battery to last more than 36 months. Martin Lewis does a great explanation of this, I think given the sudden failure this is a manufacturing defect, Lexus (not the dealer) should cough up. |

I wonder if Lexus were responsible for the 12 volt battery? They shoulder responsibility for the main (hybrid) battery but the smaller one may be regarded as just a service item.?
They were aware that these had a short life and that the end could be sudden but they insisted if it was out of warranty; it was out of warranty. Hard luck. |
