Next weekend (Friday 26th-Sunday 28th June) at Bolesworth Castle is the "Al Shira'aa Bolesworth International Drivers Lawn", what seems to be a fairly upmarket classic car show, though they've accepted my application. It's on again the weekend after, but I think that's more for supercars. There's a charge for a display ticket, but it might be nice to try something different. Just waiting to hear what the entry and exit times are. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

News on Facebook says that the Old Piggery Cafe at Combermere is closing at the end of this month due to the current business climate and other issues. That's a pity - it always seemed busy at the Sunday morning car events, mustn't have been doing enough the rest of the time. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

Aye not good, but no surprise given how small businesses are being clobbered. Hopefully someone else will take it on, but it might take a while.

The event organisers have said that the event will continue.
"Some of you have contacted us having heard the unfortunate news about the team at the Old Piggery Cafe stepping down at the end of the month.
Jon and Claudia have supported us throughout the 4 years and it is a real shame that this Sunday will be their last (our fourth anniversary meeting).
On behalf of Robert Dixon and I, and all of our group members, I would like to sincerely thank them and wish them all well for the future.
We are working with Peter (landlord) to ensure that the cafe remains open for our meets beyond June and can confirm that we have contingency options lined up. This may involve outside coffee/bacon roll stands in the short term, but the cafe will remain open for seating and toilets access. It is Combermere's intent to keep the cafe open as a going concern, however we will confirm details once they are able to share more information in due course.
Please be assured that this WILL NOT impact on the monthly meet. Events planned will continue.
See you on Sunday." _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

Thanks for the heads-up Mike, I've put my application in, it looks a lovely event, as you say, a bit different from the usual meets and shows. I was a bit unclear as to whether the Drivers Lawn is a one day event on the Friday, or if it runs all weekend, so have asked for a place on Friday and Sunday, no doubt I'll soon find out! Hope to see you there if they give me a place. Hope they do, as the Range Rover should look very much at home at an equestrian based event.
A real shame about The Piggery Cafe, it's a tough marketplace at the moment for the hospitality industry. Glad the car meets are to continue, I can't make this Sunday, but hope to be there again next month. |

I'm just doing the Sunday. Need to be in place between 8 and 10am, and stay in place until 5pm - that's a bit later than I'd normally stay anywhere, but not too bad as long as the exit is well organised.
Tatton exit was a mixture for me - on Saturday I was out of the gate and through Knutsford, past the roundabout, by 4.05, on Sunday I didn't get out of the grounds until gone 4.25. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

It's also Kelsall Steam Rally this weekend, and Oulton Park has the Supercar Pageant. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

They've accepted my entry for Bolesworth so I'm looking forward to it, the forecast is good and it should be a very nice event. I've treated myself the the Driver's Lounge hospitality package, so at least I'll have somewhere to escape the sun from time to time if it stays like this! I'll be attending on Friday and Sunday, so do say hello if you see me there. See you on Sunday Mike.
The Concours competition looks interesting, I've not been to one before so I'm intrigued to see the standard of presentation. The weekend package for that, which includes a cocktail party reception at the castle, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday lunch, plus access to the VIP hospitality areas, is around 2,300 quid for two people. It's a different world! |

If I remember correctly, that's the first ticket in the list when you click on "buy tickets", I was about to change my mind until I scrolled down a bit. Even at the cheapest it's still quite a lot, but there's a lot more on than just a car show. Pity it's one ticket to admit two people rather than two separate tickets, or I could have tried to flog the other one.
See you on Sunday. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

There's a meeting at the Royal Oak, Worleston, Sunday July 5th from 11am. I won't be there as I'm at Llangollen Classic Transport Weekend on both days. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

It's Tern Hill Hall this evening, apparently, and the "Anything Goes" meeting near Malpas tomorrow evening. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I wondered where all those noisy cars had come from that drove past my place this evening while I was watering the front and back garden. At one point, my neighbour and I were having a quick chat over the garden fence, and we kept having to stop as we couldn't hear each other while some of them went past. I'm glad I missed that one! As I've always said, a loud exhaust is usually fitted in an attempt to draw people's attention away from a cars shortcomings. |

The event is, or was, organised by a rally driver (or former rally driver) and he does get quite a lot of his rallying mates along with their cars. So they're not all just noise for the sake of it. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

There's a gathering at the Farmer's Arms, Ravensmoor, on Sunday 19th, as well as the one I'm going to at the Peacock in Nantwich. It's also Middlewich Car Show this weekend, and the gathering at the Old Piggery on Sunday 19th.
There's a new club meeting on Sandbach Common car park in the first Monday of every month from 7pm, and I think there might be something on at Capesthorne this weekend too. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

Interesting back story there, thanks. Coincidentally, my Dad was a former rally driver, his co-driver is/was my Godfather (he was still around at Christmas card time last year, but will be well in his late 80s by now, hence the current/past tense leeway). The cars I saw pass here weren't rally cars, some looked like they'd dropped out of the kit car section of turn of the century copy of Auto Trader, the others appeared to belong to the baseball-hatted pop-bang brigade. But, as the title suggests, anything goes. |
