Hi
I am planning to buy an American classic, along the lines of a Camaro or a Transam and would like to know if anybody can recommend an American car club in the UK? I have heard of a few, but don't really know the difference between say the AVO and the AAC
Any help would be appreciated
many thanks

Whilst I happily attend their events, such as the ones at Billing Aquadrome & Americana at Newark, personally, clubs tend to have too much politics going on for my liking.
I would suggest checking out their forums first as a guest - browse through & make up your own mind if you fancy joining.
www.amvo.org
www.americanautoclubuk.com
There are also forums dedicated to each of the models you seem interested in. They're American sites, but browsing through their tech & classified sections will give you a good idea of what to expect from your Yank & how much you can expect to pay for a decent example. Look at the price in dollars & change that figure to pounds to give you an idea.
If you were to ship one in from the States that cost, for example, $15000, expect the final figure to be around £15000.
Also, check out Classic American & Custom Car magazines for clubs local to where you live. It's always worthwhile attending their meets, especially if they're 'just up the road'.
There is one bunch of guys who, while not very 'PC', are dedicated American car enthusiasts & very helpful. They call themselves a 'non-club for non-members', primarily for the same reasons as I have already stated & you can check them out at:
www.rebelv8.co.uk
I regularly attend their events & have had more fun than you could shake a stick at, the next being a test & tune day at Santa Pod raceway on 15th March.
Hope this helps. _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!

Ouch, you calling my '57 ugly!!
I've had 3 Studes so far and I'm always looking out for a good deal on the next one.
Hopefully the right Stude pickup will find its way to my garage soon.
My old '42 Studebaker Champion and the ugly '57
