As if that was ever in doubt 47p2...I predict a rise in cloned number plates.

This government are pathetic, as are the civil/public servants that take up each new underhand scheme without an ounce of conscience..."I was only following orders"...Hmmm...where have we heard that before?

Usual comments on the BBC web site about "if people didn't speed they wouldn't get caught" etc... fine if the speed limits were reasonably set but they are not. No one can deny that over the last 2 - 3 years most NSL roads have been restricted to 50 or 40 and many deserted B roads now have a 40 limit. There has been a rash of village name plate signs pop-up where there has never been more than a barn and a few farm workers cottages and all of a sudden it's got a "Slow Down for Little Scottingham" sign and a 30 limit which extends for about a mile either side, usually with a speed camera 40 yards before the end of the limit. Meanwhile cars have got safer, steering better and brakes and ABS more effective. I always answer these people by telling them that where the limits earns my respect I respect it.

We`ve been subject to similar tactics for years. The cops will dress in seasonal costumes while holding a radar gun by the side of the road. Christmas time it will be a "Grinch", "Santa", or an "Elf". Saint Patty`s day will be a "Leprechaun", a bunny at Easter, and a ghost or gobblin at Halloween.
Another one big over here is airplanes flying over the highway, clocking cars between painted lines on the road sides. Then they radio to squad cars waiting down the roadway.
And now the "red light" cameras. Run a red light, camera snaps a picture of your car tag, and you get a hefty fine in the mail. Protests saying "I wasn`t driving that day" are un-heard....it`s still YOUR car that ran the light....pay it.

I'd forgotten about this old magazine from 1958 that I put on the site a while back, scroll down to the section about covert radar traps in Lancashire - perhaps there is nothing new in all this!!!
