Inspired by 47P2's 1980s Citroen 2CV pic, with the car sporting the de rigeur earth strap dangling from the rear, I wondered what other once-popular accessories have now fallen by the wayside with modern motoring?

Where have all the vinyl roofs gone? or those natty black window louvres found on all souped-up Capris and Mantas? Nodding dogs still seem to make an appearance I've noticed, so not all fads have quietly passed into obscurity...

Haven't seen a 'Tiger In The Tank' for quite a while.

What about those green sun strips with 'ANDY MICHELLE' across the windshield?

You never see the tinted vinyl strip that went across the top of the window to keep the sun out of your eyes.........With either the car make or you and your girlfriends name in big white letters Cool

Somewhere I've got an old ad for the 'hairy look', I think it showed a Renault 12 or 16 sporting this unusual stick-on finish

Here is one I made earlier.
My 1967 Viva in 1975 when I was just a lad.

Of course in these days there were no computer laser cut graphics to make up the name. A sheet of A4 white paper a pencil, ruler and pair of scissors....Oh! and the occasional swear word as you screwed up for the umpteenth time Embarassed

Looking at this picture I see a few dodgy after market items there Embarassed

I don't think the door mirror is standard.

You weren't a Rally fan, by any chance?

And what about those push-on blades that sat on your wipers to increase the airflow & help the wipers stick to the screen?

Not sure if this qualifies as an accessory, but I followed a Jag (XK8) the other day and the entire paint work had been done in a brown/green check tartan!!!! Shocked

I think he might have a bit of trouble when he comes to selling it Shocked

unless of course, he sells it to Sir Jackie Stewart!!!! Laughing

J-R, I looked at the Viva picture and thought about the clip on blades for the wipers, but as I never had them I never mentioned them Very Happy

Rick, the bonnet mascot was an after market job of nothing in perticular. The mirror was held in place wirh a couple of grub screws IIRC.

The headlamps on this HB Viva were taken from a Humber Super Snipe my father bought for the engine, he never wanted anything else so I took what I wanted. The grille is butchered from a VX 4/90 FD, indicators/side lights also from the Humber but fitted vertically instead of horizontally.
6 x 13 wide rims with chrome embellishers and Michelin XAS Tyres. The quarter bumpers were standard bumper cut and ends trimmed. Trim around the headlamps was also from the Humber. Viva SL interior was sourced at the scrap yard, which was similar to the P5B coupe in respect of the separate rear seats

What about clip on headrests, venetian blinds, in car compass (they never worked because of all the metal surrounding them....North is that way, no this way....
Cigarette lighters that you stuck the fag in and pulled it out lit Shocked

Drivers window air deflector (can't remember the name)

Remember the little heating elements that fitted inside at the bottom of the windscreen? they almost demisted but could absolutely be guaranteed to flatten your battery.
One I always wanted was a door pillar mounted spotlamp with a pistol grip for aiming it at signposts when lost out in the sticks or taking part in a rally. Haven't seen one for years.
