At classic car events what age group of cars now get the most attention. Most people now say "my dad had one of those" dont they.So are we looking at 60s and 70s cars. Cortinas,Escorts and most mass produced family cars because they can identify themselves with this type of car. I like to wander round and look at them all because I like the really old stuff on show as well and the steamers but I would reckon that most people are interested in 60s and 70s.cars _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

while mooching around Weston Park a few weekends ago, I think the car with the most interest shown in it (if the number of people asking the owner questions is a judge) was a wonderful Invicta Black Prince, preserved rather than restored, and definitely no concours contender - a fabulous bit of kit, that turns up at many shows in this area. Why was it so popular? my guesses:
1. the shape is like few other cars, and like nothing else at the show
2. it was a make that many will not have heard of
3. the owner printed up some information for people to read about the car, and was with the car much of the day, happy to talk about it
4. I've noticed before that unrestored vehicles, still wearing their original lick of faded paint, often get more attention than those restored to look like a new pin
Two recent photos of this car:

Though there are only a few ''non-american'' cars here, these never seem to get much attention at all. In one instance, this was proved to me when I saw someone at a show sitting on the bonnet of beautifully restored Healey 3000. They did not realise it was worth anything....
So therefore, here it will basically be anything american that attract most attention, usually something unusual from the mid to late 50's or early 60's. |

It depends on the age of the people at the show and what floats their boat.
We take our 1960 Super Snipe to loads of different shows and sometimes it gets lots of attention and others people take no notice of it and will just walk past.
But for me if it's got a nice set of whitewalls and loads of chrome then I interested. Age is barrier. _________________ 1953 Humber Hawk

Last year at the GoodGuys hot rod meet the biggest groups of people were surrounding the so-called "Rat Rods"! |

Having gone to a lot of shows with Jaguars involved I find that people gather around the Etype it still comes up as best car of the century and it shows at shows.
My DS gets so much attention from the French I even get applauded when I drive around in it _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

Oddly enough, I was just discussing this with a fellow a few days ago.
We have a 1966 Pontiac GTO. We also have a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix. A couple years ago, we took the Grand Prix to a Pontiac show. There were 100 cars entered. 37 were 1966 & 1967 GTOs. There was only ONE Grand Prix, ours. We had a crowd around it all day.
I told the wife, if we`d brought the GTO, it would have been just one more in a long line of goats. But the Grand Prix drew a crowd because there are not that many out there, and people remember them, but don`t get to see them too often.
It`s the same everywhere I take it, it does draw a lot of attention. _________________ "The only thing I`m sure of.....is that I`m not sure of anything!" |

"This Ford was getting the most attention at the Drive it Day on Sunday."
Where's the rest of it?
Are those a couple of SU's poking out the side?Definitely not standard then.
And those tires look a little wide as well.
I bet the driver is not scared of giving it some stick too!. |

Poodge,
The driver and his wife came into the carpark at a fair rate of knots, the exhaust sounds wonderful and everyone just stood and stared .
My first thought was, where is the bodywork, it must be half finished, my next thought was, they must be frozen it was a bitterly cold day.
It was twin SU carbs and a few other mods, but great to see and hear.
Well done that couple, they should win a prize for the bravest couple on the run _________________ ROVER
