G'day my UK friends, I was wondering did leyland release the P76 in the UK. The Cockies and cabbies loved them because of their boot space.

Ian

The P76 was never sold in the UK as it was felt it would hit sales of the other big Leyland saloons of the time: Rover SD1, Princess, and Jaguar XJ6.

My Oz slang to Real English translator omits "Cockies" - can you please explain?

A "cockie" is slang for farmer....don't know why Rolling Eyes

Farmers and Cab drivers might have liked them, but not many others did....boy, were they ugly..... Laughing

Yep, KB and "cockies joy" is Golden syrup you have on damper.
A Wheat cocky grows wheat, a cow cocky breeds cows, and the boss cocky is the boss of anything from farming to Engineering.
By the way the P76 could hold a 44 gallon drum in the boot.
The Brisbane cabbies liked the Rover V8 in them because of the fuel economy, as they were better that the Holden & Falcons at the time.
Yellow cabs had about 40 and I inspected every one of them before I was transfered to Warwick.
The Targa wasnt bad though KB but did leave a little to be desired
