Heres the shortened version. I restored my first car, an Austin 12 when I was still at school. My brother and I drove it up to my Aunt and Uncle who live in Forres. As we were filling it up at the local garage, we noticed a prewar Alfa in the showrooms. Naturally, we went in to have a look at it. As we were doing this, we noticed a man looking at our Austin. He came into the showrooms, and asked if the Austin was ours. We said it was, and he congratulated my brother on the restoration. My brother surprised this man by saying that it was me that had done the work.

It turned out that he was the Alfas owner, and had a small collection of other cars. On the spot, he offered me a job as an apprentice....

Thanks for that. I've often wondered how different life would have been for me if I had accepted the offer.

I wonder what happened to the Alfa?
