Firstly, is the big silver lump far right the alternator? So technical me!

What on earth is the big cone sort of thing on the right, as far as I can tell the petrol pump is top right and almost out of shot and a pipe leads from one to the other, so is this the carb? Oh please don't laugh...

General engine shot, does not look too pretty under here with the waxoyl or however you spell it!

Do you think a new door skin on here is adviseable. The car is a non standard Morris colour so colour matching will be difficult so I was thinking about spraying the whole car eventually. So thought I would let this door do its thing until then and then replace skin

This is the OSR bumper, what is the black umbrella shaped bit of rubber called, its perished and needs replacing on both sides.

Thanks
Blondie!

1. Yes the big silver lump is the alternator

2. The cone is the air filter which is held onto the carb with the wingnut you can see.

3. If the rest of the door is good I would have some work done to the damaged now before it gets any worse. then when it comes to a respray you won't need a door.

4. On my Rover the rubber part is called a rubber bumper grommet.

Hope this helps

Not a wind-up; the lady is obviously interested in learning more about her car, and the serious questions deserve serious answers. This should be encouraged - remember we all had to start somewhere, and many of us are still learning Wink

71marina has already suggested that the rocker cover could be one of your oil leaks and yours certainly looks a little wet at the back (see the bolt behind the Morris name on the top of the engine.) Another likely spot might be that your oil filter bowl has not been well fitted. It's the dirty thing below the rear of the alternator. It looks wet ( and shouldn't be) too.

As regards the paint question, isnt it possible to get aerosols mixed and filled in the UK now? If thats the case, then the easy thing would be to get the paint optically measured, then whoever to fill the aerosol.

I'm guessing that it will be a standard colour anyway...

I agree that the paintwork should be treated now NFC to prevent it getting any worse, looks like a couple of scratches that have been left untreated have caused the damage.
The alternator looks new, as do the brake pipes which shows a certain amount of work has been done to your car for the better, not all Minors had alternators so it's an upgrade perhaps?
The Waxoyl may look messy but it's worth it's weight in gold if applied in the more rust prone areas of the car, usually used in the chassis and body panel interiors. Very Happy

Most UK paint supply shops will make you up an aerosol, even Halfords do it these days but they only do to a paint code rather than an optical match.

From what I've heard, silver is one of the trickier colours to match when touching up part of a car panel. Just repainting the bit around the door handle for instance will not be too easy to leave looking good.

PS I renamed the thread to make it easier to find in future, hope you don't mind Smile

Sorry but I am green and unknowledgeable when it comes to maintenance on cars. I can drive however. I am a woman who does know how wide/long/performance of her car. I can reverse park a car unlike many of my female friends. And because I am very OCD about things at times, I also took the IAM advanced driving test just for the pure hell of it. Laughing Laughing

I know, I am very strange. Wink

Rick, could you add one more to the photo please? The Oil Damper Cap.
A far as I can see, its the only service point you missed.
