This PV pickup has just come up for sale here.



Quoting the advertisement its ''a unique factory built 1966 Pickup. The only example in Sweden? Lots spent on it, and in incredibly fine condition. Original Radio, goes like a clock. Tested to 2009. No rust''

I know what I think, but do you others think the same?

I seriously doubt it. I know for a fact that the factory didnt build any pickups, what they did was sold chassis to coachbuilders who then made them. I dont know for sure, but to me this definately does not look like a job that a pro coachbuilder would do.

As far as the ''no rust'' goes, whats that above the rear wheel arch, or is it a poor photo?

the back end does look a bit angular, and the chequerplate in the back doesn't look too hot could it be a cut down van? I'd need to look at a photo of a van to see if the cab roof is a similar shape

To satisfy my curiousity, I trawled som local sites, and found this, which IS a coachbuilt one.



I found its history interesting, so I've translated a potted version.

''This chassis was ordered by the Volvo dealer in Vilhelmina and sold ready built to entrepreneur Kjell Huss on the 13th April 1959. It was used as a company vehicle until it was sold to another company in 1966. At the end of the 60’s, it was sold to a BP petrol station, partly restored, and used until 1974. It was then sold on, and used as a company vehicle again until 1990. Between then and 1993 it was restored, and sold to the current owner.''

Bet you would like that, wouldnt you Rick?

yup I'd like that - I much prefer the finished-off rear to that cab, when compared to the chopped-off look of the red pickup. Looks a lot better IMHO. I'd like to get some of my existing workload sorted before buying too much else right now though!!!

I reckon the red one is as ugly as the convertible, in UJ's other post, is beautiful.

Yes, that convertible is nice, isnt it.

Funny thing is, I put it down as a PV convertible, when in fact its on a Duett chassis. Which I suppose makes it a Duett convertible really.

"factory job"my fat aunt fanny.It's a cut-down Duett,and not a very good cut at that.The "rust"between mudguard and bed looks like sealant to me.
Re the convertible,one was featured in a mag I read recently.According to the article,only 7 were ever made.If that's true,it's a crying shame,as the convertible is quite pretty,compared to the "cat's back"sedan.
The"real" factory ute is an earlier PV 444 model.The doors have been shortened quite a bit,presumably to increase load space.looks much more professional,with pleasant proportions.
