How right you are...I like to be able to lift the bonnet or whatever and fix the car not like the modern stuff with all the technology where you just close the bonnet and have to pay someone with all their fancy Bosch diagnostic equipment which they have paid thousands of pounds for which in 20 years time you will get at an autojumble for a tenner....After all the speed limit is 70 no matter whether you have a big Audi or a nice easy going easy to fix 71marina. I rest my case. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

If this forum had existed 50 -100 years ago, I wonder would there have been a similar reaction to the likes of;
Automatic fuel pumps, windscreen wipers, electric starters, hydraulic brakes, disc brakes, automatic battery charging regulation, synchromesh gearbox’s, etc etc. |

When Honda motorcycles started to be sold in England, a lot of riders at the time commented on how difficult they would be to repair, due to the fact that they all seemed to have single and twin cylinder ohc engines. Soon, everyone started to realise that in fact they were easier than some of the parallel twins of the day.
Its a bit of the same situation today. ODBII readers are relatively cheap to buy, and a simple plug in relates in clear text exactly what electronic parts needs to be changed. Does on my late model at least.
Of course, you then have to buy the spare part. There no pleasure of pulling it apart to find out the fault, and then rebuilding it. |

My wife,s best friend in the UK has just had to sell her 2004 clio because the diesel pump has disintegrated the bill would likely be £4000 because ALL the fuel system is coded and mapped to the ECU and the immobilising system so has to be purchased together as a kit
She got 1500£ for it on Ebay as a parts or repair car _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

| This is where main dealers or the way they are governed by manufacturers are just so wrong, I bet you who ever bought that Clio would have had it back on the road without spending more than a couple of hundered on ECU repairs.... |

I was in at the Mercedes dealership the other day.
Speaking to the workshop manager he told me that they charge £98.00 per hour plus VAT
Good news though if your vehicle is over 6 years old they only charge £90.00 per hour plus VAT _________________ ROVER
