I received this email recently and have spoken at length with Leona and I am convinced this is genuine and that the programme will be produced.

If you can help please email Leona and mention that Brian sent you!

CONTRIBUTORS SOUGHT FOR BBC4 CARAVAN PROGRAMME!

Do you have fond memories of touring caravan holidays in the 1940s, 50s, 60s or 70s? Or were you involved with the design/manufacture of touring caravans during these decades?

I am looking for contributors to take part in a BBC4 nostalgic social history documentary about British caravanning. The filming will take place in July/Aug/early Sept. As well as interviewees, I'm also keen to track down old photographs, cine/film, advertising material or caravan memorabilia from this period.

We also intend to film two or three actual caravan journeys so we're also looking for individuals/couples/families planning a touring caravan holiday this summer. The aim is to trigger your memories of a holiday from the 50s, 60s or 70s by recreating your original journey (or part thereof). It could be the route of your first ever caravan holiday or a journey that you've been making regularly for decades. Or any place that you would like to revisit; where you can recall special times and interesting, amusing or surprising anecdotes.

We'd like to hear from you if you're staying within Britain or touring abroad. Again, this foreign trip should be an opportunity for you to recall memories of taking your caravan overseas in the 1940s – 70s. Perhaps you travelled to the Costa del Sol before the 1970s, and remember small fishing villages from the era before mass-tourism.

If you'd like to talk to me regarding any of the above, please phone Leona Coulter on 028 9024 3331 or 028 9269 0767 or E-mail lcoulter@doublebandfilms.com

I also received a follow-up email from Leona, they are especially keen to find someone with a 60s Sprite caravan for some film work...

--------------

I am an Assistant Producer working on a BBC programme about British
caravanning. We will be filming across the UK in July and August so I'm trying
to make contact with potential contributors imminently. I'm contacting you in
the hope that you may be able to assist me through your own personal
recommendations (a classic caravan enthusiast has already posted an appeal on
your website's forum on my behalf).

We are trying to find a lovely old Sprite Alpine from the 1960s in good
condition, ideally with its original cooker, upholstery, etc. The aim would be
to film nice textured shots of the exteriors and interiors. (The caravan
owner, who would not feature on camera unless he/she so desired, would be paid
a fee for this).

I'm also looking for old archive - home movies/photographs/advertising
brochures/promotional films of caravan holidays / caravan manufacturing from
the 20s to the late 70s (TOURING caravans only).

The programme, which is a nostalgic social history documentary for BBC Four,
tells the story of TOURING caravans specifically through interviews and
archive.

I'm sure you'll be able to point me in the right direction, and look forward
to hearing from you.

With many thanks,

Leona Coulter

I have an early 70s Sprite Alpine 5 berth .The wife and daughter in law covered the seats but the originals are still under the new covers. It even has a gas mantle still mounted . The lights are run off a battery and it doesnt have 240v installed. I bought it in Glasgow for £250 in February mainly for staying weekends at car shows. Its a cracking old van and is age related to the marina.

We've just recommissioned my parents' old 1968 Sprite Alpine S which they bought in 1971 for £250. My wife and I took our 3 year old daughter away in it for a 10 day trip and she loved it.

It's all original apart from the curtains and the upholstery (my mum re-covered the seats in the mid '70s but the original upholstery is underneath the "new".

It's got both of the original gas lights (both working, although we have no spare mantles - any idea where we can find them? Number 2 inverted mantles, apparently).

We also took it to the Culzean Autoclassica (I was there with the MX-5 Owners' Club) and everywhere we go, we get positive comments from people who (like me) remembered childhood holidays in '70s.
