Here is some pics from the 2008 race.
On Friday and Saturday morning the pit lane is open to the public, must be a pain fot the mechanics having to work with a stack of folk watching you and snapping away!
See, Aston Martin works teams no different to us at home, extension cables all over the floor!
Audi keeping stuff under wraps!
I was surprised to see the MG logo on one of the Lola's, apparently they were using an MG engine
Is this the way they set the chassis up? (with a stanley tape measure!)
I have never worked with parts this clean!
Officials play an important role, so I had to include this shot
Start of the race, cars in traditional Le Mans position, allthough they don't run to the cars any more! in fact they have a rolling start behind the pace car.
Rolling start just before the pace car peels off.
All the teams seemed to make stops after about 10 laps, here is the 2nd palce car a Peugeot coming in, the 3 red vertcal lamps just to the rear of the door, light up if you are in a top 3 postion in your group, and were different colours for different groups, handy at night.
Aston Martin 007 make its first stop.
Some race shots just north of the Dunlop bridge
A Lamborgini about to be lapped by an Audi (they are in different classes)
Night at Le Mans is brilliant, photo can be stunning if unlike me you do remeber to bring a tripod
This is an Pug overtaking a Corvette.... honest!
The pits at night
Ferarri has to get a push home!
Aston Martin night stop & driver change
Audi take the overall win
End of the race all cars just look as if they have been dumped !
One of the things I like about this sort of race over F1 is the ingenuity that the mechanics & drivers have to deploy to keep cars going, look at all the tape on these 2 cars!
And finaly, a tradition on the camp sites is to build walls with empty beer bottles! these guys took it to a new level, they brought a plank of wood, ensured it was level (with a spirit level!) and then glued the bottles together with a building "grab" adhesive! att atached guy ropes!! Everyone else called it cheating, but it was impressive!
