Hi
Just took Ernie back to the garge and went through town, thought my brakes were binding a bit, but couldn't really tell, will have to check them out.
Anyway, I stopped in town, and a chap with his mate came out of the pub opposite, saying they had not seen one of these for a while, and how good it was going. They comented on it needing paintiong, but who cares, he was that taken he offered me 2K for it, but I wasn't selling, all this effort, to sell it now, would be shear daft, I want to enjoy it!
He understood, and they watched me drive off into the distance so to say!
Cheers
Dave

Hi
The damn steering box has done a wee! All over the floor. Thought the end plate maybe leaking, but it seems it is leaking through the splines, that the rod fits on, is there a seal in there, that needs replacing?
Cheers

Hi
Well, I have a quad ring to fit, but am trying the easy option first, will see what it is like in a week or two, as I have filled the box with some very thick oil I have, maybe that won't leak. Could be seen as a bodge, but up untill now, it hasn't been leaking and I think it is worth a try, knowing that I have a good chance of braking the casting, and alot of work if I have to take the grill, rad wings off etc!!!
Cheers

Hi
I think I am going to take Ernie to work tomorow, leave 10 mins earlier, and have a bit of fun hopefully.
I have just been for a little drive in him, and he seems to be doing alright.
Cheers

Hi
Just had an unbelievable thing happen, the steering box, has comeletely snapped, I now have no steering, and would you believe it happened coming out of the garage! Good job in a way!
Just been to Ricks for a spare box, and will be off to my garage in a min, after my lunch, to try and fit it, to get me going as there is a local show tomorow!
I will get some pics if I think on!
Cheers

One of the very fortunate things about steering box and linkage failures is that they only usually happen as walking pace, when the steering has maximun strain on it. If it wasn't so, few people would dare drive a Austin seven with its tiny steering link. I seem to recall checks were once carried out and a very high proportion of those in use were found to have hairline cracks. |

Hi
Well just got it driveable, missing a few bolts in my wing, and the horn push has broken, but I have a bugle type as back up now. I drove it home ready for tomorow, there is a bit of play but it isn't too bad.
Rick, I have the racks in the back, so will try to work out what I have used, as iyt was a bit dificult, one thread on each one was awkward, and my spare bottom arm nut was seized on, had no die nuts big enough so spent an hour filling the threads clear with a needle file!
anyway, I hope it will get me there tomorow, and from now on I will be very gingerly steering Ernie!
Cheers

OOO the spanner was just the job, got my big adjustables on your spanner and it turned the nut just about!
I think I will look out for a 3/4" socket set, or an 1" set.
Cheers

Hi
Just had 3 police cars, 1 van, a people carrier and a police dog, searching our road and the road behind us, driving through pavements, alsorts. We saw two lads running off in the distance, and soon the police came running, but turned the wrong way, so I told them they went the opposite way, now they are cruising the area.
They looked in the back of my Ford, so there was no one in there, just hope they don't come back later!
Cheers

Oo! so many police. The miscreants must have been suspected of illegal parking or dropping litter. |

Hi
I was just saying about 12.30am last night or this morning which ever is easiest to understand, what a waste of time, all them police and they found nothing. Next thing they find one of the lads, lying down in some long waste high grass, all of about 5 meters away from there car. So in my oppinion, they did well, they certainly had a work out, run around, and got there prize in the end!
Cheers
